I can make one as well, but not only does my camera's video quality suck, it only records for 0:59, so yeah.. Then again, it's not a mini dv camcorder, it's a digital camera.

It'll mess up your stock airbox, hence the hacking part If you ever decide to go back to stock, you'll either have to cover up the holes, or just buy another stock airbox somewhere.

Some information can be found here http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....4&page=2&pp=30 in post #38

Had to get some gas so I made a crappy video. Don't know how the quality is, about to watch it now. I'll post it in a few.

EDIT: Eh, it's alright. I'll post it anyway. It's JUST over 10MB...let's see if putfile.com will take it. Otherwise, someone will have to host it.

EDIT2: Yay, they took it. Here it is: http://www.putfile.com/media.php?n=IM000605 Leave some feedback (it sucked, it's alright, etc.)

I cut a large, wide hole on the bottom portion of the airbox (the side facing the battery), and replaced that hideous stock paper air filter with a K&N panel filter. Everything else is stock. Thanks for the feedback guys

Some say it's the only way to go, meaning better than CAI.

To each their own. Don't do it because others are doing it. Research it, and decide whether or not the possible gains are worth your time, and in this case, work. I must disagree with those who have said they did not feel a difference. The second I put everything back together and went for a drive, I felt the "kick in the pants". I would personally not go back to stock.

I did feel the difference really. I already have a Stillen y-pipe. I would have problably felt the diffrence if i didn't have the y-pipe. Thats just me.

This is old news but I'm glad you gave the hacked airbox a shot before paying quadriple and more for an intake with the same result. You get the intake sound w/o having an intake. Now save that money and double it for a suspension.

*edit*

Let me clarify something.....

Hacked airbox IS NOT CAI. The fact that you are still drawing hot air within the engine compartment thru that cut-out you made on the side of the airbox doesn't make it CAI whatsoever. However, this is a lot better than HAI when it comes to drawing hot air. You can't compare this with a true CAI like PR (not Injen) because CAI is for improving low end which our maximas already have. HAI improves top end but with that negative effects of hot air entering the intake and it gets worse during summer which will bog the engine down. The hacked AB mod is another form of HAI because they both draw in hot air. All this info are in the stickies.

I'd say go a little further than just cutting the airbox, run a 3" tube that will somehow draw air from outside the car inward. You can use a CAI tube, cut the hole at the usual spot for the tube to go thru and leave that end open to catch cooler air from below the front bumper. You'd need to cut a bigger hole on the airbox. If that's not possible, you can use silicon reducers and go from 3 to 2" then thru the cutout in the airbox. With this, you just turned your HAI setup into a CAI but w/o the negative effects of a typical CAI, namely loss of top end.

The only negative thing i could think about is that, the intake starts to really roar above 3000RMS other than thats i am happy with the "ghetto" mod. It sounds normal regular driving, but when you get on it, it sounds great. So overall it was worth the 30 min i spent. Some people used a dremel, i used a small gas torch with a knife, heated the knife up, smooth cuts. Worked for me.

What's the difference between doing the hacked airbox and just taking the stock intake snorkel off? I did that and it sounds great (attached the air temp sensor near the intake pipe). Does the extra foot or so away from the engine make a difference in air temperature?

The snorkel helps the intake (a little) to get cooler air from outside as the car moves forward. Cooler dense air = more HP. Remove the snorkel and your intake will suck in HOT air around the engine which hinders performance. I would leave the snorkel in if I were you. Leaving the snorkel in and hacking the airbox will give you the sound but hot air will enter the intake but not as bad as removing the snorkel. The marketting ploy of HAI & hybrid intake makers will say that more air is better. Sure it is, but not necessarily beneficial if the intake is sucking in more HOT air.

if you think about it it doesnt seem like it would matter that much case the intake tubes get really hot no matter what . but i guess the cooler air would help aid that to cool

The hybrid setup comes with an aluminum midpipe, metal that conducts heat. Plastic is not much of a conductor compared to metal. Ever tried touching any part of the stock intake (they're all plastic) while the engine is really hot? Ever touched any metallic object in the engine compartment while the engine is really hot? Big difference right?

I'm going to do the GAB in the summer for a change from my CAI. I'll see if I can notice a difference. I probably won't get as much hesitation on the throttle as I do now.
