how long did your hood struts last

I bought the car used so they were dead, I bought it in 2000 and the car is a 95. I replaced them with strong arm brand hood struts and they were dead a year later. now I carry an aluminum pipe to hold the hood up.

When mine goes, I'm going to modify a prop-rod in place of the hood struts so I wouldn't have to deal with them.

120K still working. Although I just noticed that a strong wind would drop them down. I hope I dont have to replace them.

Mine lasted for 100K, now they don't work at all.
But now I'm getting a carbon fiber hood and since it like 3 times as light, they should keep it up.

My hood struts on my '95 Maxima started wearing down last November, so little over 10 years. I never got around to replacing them until yesterday, as a matter of fact.

The hood struts on my 97 went at only 49k miles. Had them replaced at the dealer -- way too expensive. Next time I'll buy vice grips.

You get what you pay for. My 00 is running on originals and they are awesome and strong. My 97 last year, when I bought it, had busted ones so I bought the crappy ones from autozone. At first they were fine, but they are weakening to the point where they only just hold up the hood now. OEM are certainly better, but I will just buy a vice grib when these die.

Mine lasted until 2001. Now I'm a broomstick man - much more sturdy than the struts, especially on a windy day.

Ghetto hood props for life!! I use one of my stock springs, I set it on the top strut tower and slowly close the hood til it rests on the hood pad material.

Something must happen to the struts in the winter...here in CO mine will slowly fall or just come crashing down during 40 degree weather and the next day in the 50's it will stay up even on hills....
