new guy bout to inherit a max w/ questions

Wassup fellas? Just recently found out that I'm gonna get a 95 max se (auto) navy/black leather and I have a few questions about it.

First off, how fast is this thing and how much power is it making. Also the sound system in the thing is pretty shot. It has a bose in it but 1. the cd player does not work, and 2. the driver's side door speaker is shot. What should I do to fix the sound system?

Thanks in advance. And I'm sure these questions have been answered a thousand times but I'm kinda new to the car. I'm really a bike guy and don't know **** about these things.

95's kick ***

well bro i have a 95 max(5spd.) and it was pretty quick stock. The car comes with 190hp stock and 205lbs of torque. A stock 95 auto should run mid 15's in good condition, which is not bad considering how old this car really is.The maxima is awesome car and you'll have an awesome time with it + maxima.org is probably the most helpful site as far as imports go, with an unbelieveable amount of people waiting to help u with anything regarding ur ride. As far as those speakers go, just get an aftermarket HU and some oversized 6 1/2's to replace the stock sound system. A good HU to look at for not a lot would be the pioneer deh-3700mp. Just bought one for my sis and it gives really clean power and plays mp3 cd's. $115.95 off sounddomain.com with their price match. As far as modding...if ur planning on making tha max perform better, u'll have a blast, because the max is great on mods. just my 2cents...if u got any ?'s just pm me

Stickies are your friend. Read thru them thoroughly, then ask questions if you don't find the answers by reading them. You will get better assistance that way. Welcome to the org.

Auto are slow and a headache. Step it up, buy a 5-speed, less headaches and faster.

just keep it stock, you'll wish you did. stock the maxima is slow. ~160hp at wheels. bose is terrible. if your going to sound quality. get a nice deck Eclipse cd8053. then get some good front components koda6.1, and then a nice amp. older soundstream would do nice. you will need to route new wires.

I have a stock 1995 DJ2 (if thats black emerald) SE, 5-speed, with a K&N panel filter and Y-pipe and I don't think its slow at all. In fact, I've been faster in the top end than any car I've ever been in and I grew up in the muscle car era.

You didn't say how many miles are on the car and what kind of condition it is in. Learn how to maintain it properly, don't continually drive it like a rented mule, and you should receive years of driving enjoyment to come.

Thanks fellas for all the info. There's about 90,000 miles on the car and it's in relatively good shape as my mom drove it for some time under my supervison. I'm a motorcycle mechanic so I'm not clueless as to how these things work. I just wanna turn what's already an ok car into a pretty decent ride. Like someone said the thing's free so I can't really complain at all, can I. And about the auto...I've been driving a stick pos prelude for the past 3 and a half years so I'd be more than happy to give my left leg some rest. I race motorcycles and would rather wear out my knees doing that at this point than clutching all over the place. Thanks again though fellas. You all seem like a pretty good batch of guys. For sure I'll be coming here for all my info.

BTW...the Bose deck inside the car looks pretty clean and I'm afraid if I replace that with something aftermarket that I would'nt have the same sleek look in the car. Have anyone of you placed stereos in that sorta retain the sleek stock look? Just curious cuz I really don't wanna just slap something cumbersome in there. If ya could, post pics. Thanks again.

If you want to retain that stock look, what you could do is buy a non-bose 97-99 AM/FM/CD/TAPE headunit. It looks basically similar to the BOSE HU and just upgrade the speakers/wires and add amps.

Auto's should run typically 15.8@88mph stock. Good luck with the car, Navy is a very nice color and is a pretty rare color I believe.

I think I'm the only one here that actually likes the Bose stereo

I have had absolutely no problems with my Bose stereo and quite like it. Mind you I'm not into bass that shakes my fillings and rattles the bejeezus out of my car.

Yeah no doubt that when the bose was working it was the shiznit. I remember it sounding and acting like a quality system. But now that it's broke, it's gotta go.

Thanks for the thread man. Im about to get an Arctic White 95' SE auto for college, 160,000 miles . Everything works , my Dad kept it well. Props for 3000 mile oil changes! At any rate, I wanted to know a couple of things. One, if there is a way to mod the suspension to get rid of the awful body roll. I know a Y-pipe is the best way to increase the power. I just want to shipshape the car , so that it can last another 200,000 miles with little or no further major mechanical(read-dealer visits) work. One question. I'm smelling an awful amout of what seems to be exhaust fumes when i turn on the auto climate control. With it off, the car smells fine, but flip on the defrost or heat and the interior starts REEKING with gasoline smell! It's blows(excuse the pun) when I have to drive in the middle of a Chicago winter and have to choose between a cold ride to work or smelling like a gas station when I clock in. Any help would be MUCHO apreciated!

If you're not into lowering the Arctic White 95 SE and getting new wheels/tires/struts/springs, then just by an FSTB and an RSB. Can't help you with the problem.

190 HP, replace ur whole sound system, with the bose it is all weird and everything so it is better to replace everything sound wise at one time.

Thanks for the suspension tips. Right now, though, the big priority is fixing the smells-like -gas exhaust odor coming from the climate-control .It kinda sucks when ive got a date in the car and have to explain why I can't turn on the heat-and its -2 below. . Much help needed. Has this happend to anyone else, or is it just my max that's got the special problem?

I love it also. It's not that great for playing loud bass but it does everything else well
