How to mount a short ram intake
How to mount a short ram intake
Well I bought this "Bomz Racing" short ram intake kit off of eBay. I wasn't going for anything too fancy, just wanted to try it out (being my first performance mod really). It's all installed right now, but there is really no support at the filter end of the intake. The whole fixture is pretty much just being supported at the end where it attaches to the throttle body. The filter end is more or less just resting on top of the wheel well now. Here's a link to what the kit looks like

The tube that I have is bent differently than the one show, but the kit is essentially the same (the kit shown is for an Altima). Anyway, the kit I got came with these two brackets (which you can see to the right of the tube), but I can't for the life of me figure out where to put them. I imagine they're supposed to support the assembly somewhere by the MAF, which would solve my problem, but I don't know how to mount them. Any ideas?
I couldn't find anything related to this in the stickies. (on a side note, how do I search through thread titles?) I'm clearly new to this forum. I became a big fan of the MaximaDriver website back in 2001 when I got my maxima. Cheston Chiu did a great job with that, but he had to go and buy a Z and take the site down. Nonetheless I find myself here at the maxima.org forums, which are incredibly more active than I thought they'd be. Hoping maybe somebody would know what I'm doing wrong. Thanks.

well when i bought my car it came with a stillen popcharger and it has a bracket support that pretty much is a piece of metal screwed into the wheel well with a right angle to make it vertical and a U cut in the top where the rear of the filter sits. honestly i dont even think you really need a support for the filter but mine has one just because the stillen filter is so large.
but if you really think you need a support then just head over to home depot and find some things so that you can fab up your own. fabrication is not a linear thing, so just find some supplies and use your creativity. if you dont have any problems screwing into your car then it will be easy. so id say just go over to home depot or lowes and see what you can find.

I made my own bracket since my Stillen didn't come with one. It works like the Stillen, attaches to the car with the screw and then connects to the MAF screw. Just get a 1" wide peice of metal, make sure its thin enough to bend but stiff enough to support the intake. Drill some holes in it and mount it. Very simple.
Crappy pic of the 1st one I made:

If you dont like this then you can zip tie the whole thing to something close by.
