stalling problem - no CEL
Stalling problem for past month. Stalls when off the throttle, coming to a stop or coasting in parking lot. Dealership said there were no codes in ECU. They said they couldn't replicate the stalling, so they cleaned out the throttle body. Im still having the problem - still no CEL. Last weekend, replaced the coolant temp sensor - still stalling. Yesterday, cleaned out the IACV. It was real dirty. Should it have been that dirty if they cleaned the TB? Cleaned IACV didn't fix problem either. Checked the throttle position sensor today - resistance between #2 and #3 pins was ok, but the continuity of the wideopen/closed for #5 & #6 pins wasn't right. So adjusting the 2 screws got the continuity right and the #2 #3 resistance was ok. Man the idle was jumping all over when I started the car. Took a minute to level off at about 650 rpm. Drove it around awhile - was rough a couple of times at low speed by didnt stall. Acceleration seems ok. Do TPS's commonly go bad? If the stalling reoccurs - does anyone have any other suggestions of what to check next? Had 120,000 mile maintenance at the dealership 24,000 miles ago. The supposedly replaced the fuel filter. My wifes never run out of gas, but constantly runs it pretty low. Could this foul the fuel filter?
I second that it sounds like a fuel problem. And at 24K miles, that filter is getting pretty old. You should replace it ever 15K miles, unless you get a 300ZX filter, and then you can go 30K miles. Change that out first (easy + $10) before doing anything more indepth.
