Y/B pipe ... will it change the sound?
I have been debating mentally whether or not to do exhaust. After installing my PR CAI I want more out of the max. I noticed after doing the CAI that OBVIOUSLY it changed the sound, but I didn't get the Honda Civic EX ghetto sound. Will a Y or B pipe change the sound of the car dramatically. Also I know that you cannot hear intakes unless you put the petal down a little or are at high RPM. Can you hear Y/B pipes even at low RPM? Thanks ... BTW I was planning on going budget since I am a cheap @$$ when it comes to spending.
I grappled with the decision on whether or not to buy a y-pipe for some time because I am not in to noise. I bought a stainless steel Budget y-pipe last June and have a K&N panel air filter. Upon start up the car sounds a little louder if you are standing outside the vehicle because it removes two pre-cats. However, when you are driving the car there is no discernible noise increase at idle or when cruising on the highway. Concerns about "bees in the can" sound are overblown as there is no such sound.
Now when you put your foot in to it there is a bit of a growl, but thats partially a function of the K&N air filter. I notice that the car has considerably more oomph between say 4,000 and 6,000 rpm in 2nd and 3rd gears. I don't drive it like I stole it but once in awhile I lay into it and the silly grin on my face remains there for some time thereafter. I'm glad I have a 5-speed, lol.
I can't speak for the B-pipe but would recommend if you get one from Budget to get the one with the resonator. Also get the stainless steel products, not the aluminized ones.

That's what I did. But you should keep your stock y-pipe in case you ever fail emissions because of it. I haven't run my through yet, pretty soon, and I intend to have the car nice and warm when I do it because two pre-cats have been removed.
Another reason to hang on to the stock y-pipe is they are expensive as hell. I checked some time back and the stealership wanted Cdn$1,200, which is almost US$1,000 at today's exchange rate - don't know what they presently are in the US. The Budget y-pipe is considerably lighter than the OEM part - say at least 10 pounds.

WHOA ... 50 different opinions. So a y-pipe will make me ricey ... I live in GA ... everyone has a raised truck with flow masters and "Southern Off-road Specialists" across their windshield. I am not going to get it if I hear it at 2500 RPM and my foot is barely on the gas ... I only want to hear it at 3500 and above. Anyway ... does anyone recommended changing CAT Converter or leave it stock as well? Other than the fact that I hate hearing any car when it is at low RPM and driving casually, it is extremely uncool at school.
read through them again, even I got a general idea.
Y-pipe alone = not ricey, not even noticeable as far as sound, power, yes it will have more.
y+b = louder, not worth the noise,
read them all once or twice more, they say basically what I just said.

WSP Superfloooo Y-pipe - even tho i had all those problems when I got mine, since ive been on the phone with WSP and theyve helped me work out the problems and its been good. Quiet normal driving unless you floor it through 1st and 2nd (top ends of those gears are where it gets a little noisy but thats just normal w/ any Y-pipe i think). from 3rd on its deep and smooth (helped by the HAI) As mentioned above aftermarket B-pipes dont yield much more power, especially if not in conjunction w/ a y-pipe. Im just leaving mine stock until the 3" piping for my turbo
