Mysteriously losing coolant

I find myself having to add coolant to the overflow tank at least 2-3 times a month. There are no visible signs of leakage. Any ideas??

pull your oil filler cap, and see if you can see any milky substance in there, also when you change your oil, check it then. If it looks like there is some coolant in there, its most likely your head gasket.

If not, watch your exhaust, if it is coming out white, you are burning coolant, though I cant' remember what is the most likely cause of that off of the top of my head. Do you ever notice any coolant dripped onto the driveway?

When I first noticed the coolant disappearing, I did check the oil fill cap and checked the oil the last time I changed it. Both were OK. I don't see any leaks on the driveway. If the coolant is leaking thru the head gasket, would white smoke come out the exhaust all the time?? I only see the normal smoke when first starting it in the morning. After that, there's nothing. Think the CAT is burning it up before it gets out of the tailpipe?? Also, I did throw a bottle of BARS Leak in the radiator, a few weeks ago, but that didn't help.

Get the BARS leak crap out of your cooling system, then get a new radiator cap.

radiator cap is my guess....if your gasket is warn out it can be boiling out....you can check this by getting your motor warm and with the hood open rev it up (with your hand) to get it nice and hot then let off and see if you see any steam coming out of your radiator cap. Another idea is that your radiator over flow hose may be shot...that may need to be replaced. When ever I have had a coolant leak I could always smell it after I had run the car pretty hard. Can you smell anything when the car is turned off after driving?

Sometimes I can smell coolant after driving it. I'll have to look into getting a new cap since it's the original factory cap.
