cruise control LED???

I spent 3 hours last night trying to get LEDs in my cruise control switch working. I got the switch apart easy enough and got LEDs with resistors inside in place of the bulbs. It doesn't seem to work when I put it back in though. I know they are in the right way, but something is just funny with it.

Has anyone else done this that can provide some insight? Maybe there is something tricky to it that I'm not getting? How did everyone else do it?

i did it but mine has stopped working its really a pain in the *** inside there

make sure that little white plastic piece is in there right so the contacts touch and make sure the springs in there are lined up right

i forget what it looks like but i imagine a few others have had the problem if you and i have

ps my led works for the part that says cruise control but not on the big on square part that has stopped working and its been too cold to bother

Please corect me if I am wrong, but I do beleive the '96s (and probably others, I just can't confirm) did not have a light in the cruise control switch. I know my '96 doesn't, and never has, light up. My '99 does.

I did mine about 2 days ago, what a pain in the **** it was. You have to make sure that when you solder the LEDs inside the switch, you give enough clearance for the white plastic thing to move freely left and right to provide contact. My "CRUISE CONT" LED lights up, but the "ON" LED does not. Then again, neither does the cruise control itself, so I may have to buy a new switch and do it over. I used a white LED and it looks great at night. Be patient, it can be done. Let me know if you have any questions, as I've replace almost all the interior lights in my car with LEDs, including the gauges.

I'm confused. Is the green, square, LED on the Cruise control switch supposed to light up? Meaning, it light up when new from the factory? But they break easily and you guys are trying to fix it?

Or, did they never light up from the factory and you guys are adding the feature as a mod?

Thanks.

The green is a Square, I believe it is behind the "ON".

There are 2 little bulbs inside the cruise control switch. One of them lights up the "CRUISE CONT" letters, the other lights up the green (square) light when you push it to the "ON" position. Both of these little bulbs can be replaced with LEDs, provided you use resistors for each. I was not able to get the green (square) "ON" button to work with my LED - only the lighted "CRUISE CONT".

Black Maxima, MaDMvD, neither one of you answered my question. I know exactly what light you are talking about, that wasn't my question. My question, again, is:
1.) Is the green 'ON' square supposed to light up? Meaning, it did when the car was new. It's just that they break/burn out easily and you guys are returning it to stock?
- or -
2.) It never light up stock and you guys are doing a modification to make it light up.

I'm sorry, it only lights up when you press "ON". That turns the Cruise Control on and then you can use the steering controls to set your speed. Once you take yours keys out of the ignition it will turn back off.

No, no, no, no. lol, lol. I know exactly what light you guys are talking about and I know exactly how it functions. I don't know how else to ask my question any clearer than I have. How's this....

Are you fixing a stock feature which is broken?
- or -
Are you adding a feature that was not there originally?

Hope that simplifies it. lol

I think they are just changing the color, instead of green( original from factory) to different color ( white, blue led...)

OH. The light is green from the factory, we are changing the light to blue with a new LED. Just what Goran said.

were you guys able to remove the green piece from inside the switch i couldnt when i did mine and ended up having to dremel at it

im kinda glad my light doesnt come on now tho cuz it used to blind me cuz it was such a bright blue led now my cruise works fine but the on light doesnt light up

also the light on the cluster that says cruise in green that comes on while you are cruising it is a white bulb behind green plastic.... if you were to put a blue led behind it whould it light up blue? its the same concept as the turn signals but for them i never tried and ended up sanding the green down to clear

when i di mine i blew acouple cause when you put it back together it moves the insides around anlittle and somehting touches and the led blows. Mak sure youhave the right polaritity. also the solder does not stick to that copper to well.

I'm gonna give it one more go tonight and see if I can't get it. I got the little green square out fine yesterday with a tiny screwdriver.

I also learned from this thread that the dimmer thing has a bulb in it. I didn't know that. Time to replace it with an LED.

OT: Does anyone have any information on how to get LEDs inside the side A/C vents? I got them inside the center ones easy, but I'm at a loss on how I could do the outside ones.

Even though I've already done mine, I'd like to see how other people approached the soldering part. Please post your pics.

the first thing i'd check with that one is the polarity...make sure it's right. the howto for it is here: http://www.petah.org/maxima/hazard.htm. other than that i'd say to make sure the connections are well soldered...the solder doesn't like to stick to copper too well.

be careful taking that cruise control switch apart again. i tried doing mine again, took it out to the car, tried it, ... and nothing. then i started playing with some other stuff and then all of a sudden, the bulb behind the "cruise control" text started working. now, i'm afraid to take it apart again to check the other bulb and fix it.

cruise control led

Has anyone here got both leds working on the cruise control switch. I am only managing to get the ON light to come on. But the CRUISE CONT light will not work. I took it apart again and tested the led and it does work. But when I plug it to the harness it doesn't light. Its wierd because If I check with a meter both the copper terminals for the Cruise Cont light have 12v. The cruise cont light should always bit lite providing the head lights are on.
