Stillen axle-back opinion

those of you who have it, how loud would you say it is when Not paired with an aftermarket Y pipe as well as keeping stock 2 1/4 inch piping?

any input on the exhaust tone with everything else stock would be appreciated

You'll be lucky if you hear it being that you don't have any other ex. mods

You'll hear it. Here is the order I got my mods in (not this year)
June:stillen intake
October: stillen muffler
January: Budget y
May: Budget res. B

I could hear the exhaust with the stillen muffler and the rest stock. It's not too loud, but you can hear it. It's still quiet to other drivers at that point, but once you add other exhast parts it gets quite loud for everyone. It sounds great if you have a Y and stillen muffler and intake with stock B pipe, very deep and throaty. After getting the B pipe, I kind of regret it because I think the stock one sounded better, but thats just my opinion. If you have any ?s let me know.

Just a bolt on muffler sounds so good. Its barely any louder and has a deep tone. Once you install a Y pipe all hell breaks lose. The Y adds so much (BAD) noise to the VQ. Headers on the other hand sound spectacular.

MY GOD ... every day I change my mind whether or not to buy the old Budget Y-pipe. I read the "Battle of the 3.0s" and got depressed (not really) because our car doesn't even touch 5th gen and don't even talk about 6th gen. My uncle has one and it is beautiful. Even reading people's dynos ... they can't even get passed 200 HP. Anyway after reading your post JSutter, I don't want to buy it because you claim it adds bad noice to the old VQ. You do mean this even with stock everything. I am stock except PR CAI and I like the sound now, but after that I am going to stay back I guess. Can't stand to be classified as a ricer at school.

There are many 4gs in the 200 whp.

They are the second fastest Maxima next to the 5.5g.

Screw the muffler, get the y-pipe only and call it a day.

i see where you're coming from but i'd rather have a little growl when i do add my Y pipe

i have a feeling the stock b pipe is the key to eliminating the rasp
