Squeeking from rear deck... after sub install... where's it coming from?!

Hey guys, this is a question to an OLD problem that's been slowly getting worse. Long time ago, year or so, I had the rear sub speakers disconnected and a sub box/amp installed in the trunk. For those of you who have done the same thing, have you noticed a squeek now coming from the rear deck area? If you have, did you find it and where would you suggest I start looking first? I'd like to have some target areas figured out before I go in and start pulling things apart. But the squeek is getting worse and worse, just annoying more than anything (especially to passengers in the back) and the dealership won't look at it for me because I've modified the car.

Sounds like the rear deck is loose. I've had that happen in other cars I've worked on or owned. Try pressing down in certain areas to see which part has a lot of movement and find some way to secure those spots. I hope that helps.

Mine did something similar, I removed the 3rd brake light and stuffed socks under the deck. Noise is pretty much all gone. Get some old socks about 4 pair and try it, takes under 2 minutes and easy to undo if that is not the problem. Hope this helps.

Clean socks is probably the way to go.

thanks guys, I'll try that out... of course its one of those problems you can only hear when the car is moving, so either i try the sock routine or i have someone pulling apart my rear deck while I drive down a dirt road. hehehe

Make sure if using new socks you remove them from the plastic bag j/k.
The rear deck rattle is really stuborn. I would climb back there with some tunes thump'n which create the rattles normally. Add pressure to areas and see if/when it goes away. That's the best advice I can offer. Sometimes it's the actual metal back there that was not welded properly. Good luck
