nissan suggests the update throught the consult 2 which only they have. i have the new style maf w/o the update and it has been trouble for over a year now. if you want the update done them make an appt at the dealer and expect to spend around 85 for the diagnostic time.
Ya, and while you have the Consult 2 hooked up to it, ask the dealer to advance your timing to 17 degrees. They should do this for free since they will already have the consult 2 hooked up to your car.
i will, i think i'm going to wait till i get my injectors cleaned out and fuel system running right too, there are just too many things that are up with my car, but luckily i can get the fuel system done for around a hundred bucks and i'll do that that same day i have my clutch installed which should be in about two weeks, if i didn't have problems then it wouldn't be fun right?

I called my local stealership and they said that the last time it was in they found an "airflow meter" that needed to be replaced for $213 including labor (installation and reprogramming the ECU). Is this the same thing as the MAF?

sorry ... I would've just made a new thread but the new rule... eh I'll just shut up- I just made the appt for the repair (an hour from now) so I wanted to make sure I was getting the right thing done before I went in there wasting money I don't have in the first place.

All the best with your trip to the dealership...
Thanks. I have done searches etc, but missed the label on the part for the MAF that had the word meter on it (which is what made me wonder because it has always been referred to as "mass air flow"sensor, not "meter - air flow") .. I also thought I saw a post that said a new MAF from the dealership would cost $400, but I can't find the post now.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

I will say that is the best $200 I have ever put into my car. She shifts smooth as silk now and pulls all the way through to about 6100 rpm. I bought the car with the bad MAF, so this is the first time I have ever driven it without the problem... and I couldn't stop driving it cause I was having too much fun.
The dealership was actually quite helpful and replaced the airfilter at the same time with the MAF to assure it wouldn't happen again any time soon. My mechanic explained how the stock nissan filter has an oily feel to it whereas most aftermarket filters are dry, which causes the maf to clog and need replacement.
So the car is now running better than it ever has (in my ownership of it), and the swap of the MAF and airfilter along with an ECU reprogram only took about 30 minutes.

it more than likely needs to be reprogrammed by the dealership .. which for my '00 costs $89. You could try resetting it, but unless you have gotten it reprogrammed since the new MAF came out, your ECU will need to be reprogrammed
