i dunno i parked my car one night looking like this

woke up the next morning to find this

yes its obviously possible, best way to do it is to buy a junk car/parts car and youll have just about everything you need except clutch basically (provided the other parts are still in good shape... pedals, slave cyl, master cyl, lines, mounts, etc)

All you gotta do is find a 3rd generation from the junkyard and buy all the parts to switch it out, i would say it would run you around 800 by the time you buy everything and get all the small parts that the junk yard may not have. Some have done it for like 300 though, but i guess they got lucky with their parts source.

AH i got beat by a few seconds on that reply.

SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!

Cost about 350$ in parts from junkyard and way too much of my free time.

Why on earth smbdy would want to do THAT? ...the GXE automatic is the best box ever invented. Only oxidized electronics might spoil that pleasure:

To change an auto over to a manual is NOT for the feint of heart -- it's a difficult job which involves a lot of mechanical know-how. By the same token I'm sure it's a great learning experience.
I agree with Wiking: the automatic in my 90 SE is the best gearbox I've ever used -- and I've driven everything. Possible exception might be the 86 Hurst Olds 442 with the little toggles (like a drag racer) to select gears manually or automatically.
Anyway, at 70 - 90 on the highway, with the O/D off, that tranny is great fun.

/tends to get long-winded.

I can disagree. I'm on my third tranny within the past two years. These auto's can't last with me. Have you ever driven an Intrepid. Those trannies can last. My brother had one brand new out of the lot. He drives worse than me and his car lasted over 100k before he decided to sell.

Hal has a writeup for the 4th gen.....they should be very similar and its a good reference to go by.

I basically started taking my car apart along with the parts car and it was pretty obvious to me how it had to go back together. I needed help with a few little things and referred to my Haynes for things like removing the axles to make sure I didnt damage them.

I would say that unless your the type who is mechanically inclined and is good at figguring out how things work the 5sp swap will be a major PITA.

thats because you have a stronger transmission than him

all the 89-91 and 92-94GXEs had the sh1tty auto
92-94se have a better auto although still not what i would call strong but at least it lasts longer than 150k

I purchased an Intrepid ES for the Lovely Yet Gracious Former Mrs. Geerhed shortly before she became the 'Former'. Tranny lasted one year. $1,700 to replace/rebuild.
They have ALL sorts of problems with the Chrysler 4-speed automatics. Check out www.allpar.com sometime and see all the threads about dead Intrepid and Caravan/Voyager/Town & Country trannies.
I don' t know what you're doing to that poor car that you've gone through three trannies. Mine has gone 176,000 miles and still shifts better than a Mercedes (had one of those, too).
Of course, having said that, I'll go out and blow it up on the way to Easter services.

The spoiler he has is the Stillen spoiler not the WW spoiler. I am not sure if Stillen still carries it but that is what he has.
