Just finished a 2700 mile road trip

in my '87 SE 5-speed. The car now has 182k on the clock, and it performed flawlessly. Not a single problem, and I didn't and still wouldn't have any hesitation to take it on the road again.

Of course, in the last 18 months it's had all 4 struts, both front side axles, steering rack, timing belt and water pump replaced. But the engine still pulls strong.

All factory paint still except for the rear bumper. Never been in an accident any worse than a little tap. Could use a little overall freshening, but it's been a great daily driver.

There are 4. 2 full struts in the front and strut Cartridges in the back. No shocks.

Where'd you go? What kind of mileage did you get?

I drove up the West Coast and back. Averaged 22.5 for the whole trip, but the freeway cruising sessions were about 26.5, with a couple of tankfuls over 28. Pure city driving only gets me about 18.

Yes, the rears cartridges are direct replacements, with no parts swapping from the OEM assemblies necessary to convert. They're a pain to install, though, all on their own. There's some wrestling involved to remove the assemblies from car, then they have to be disassembled.

TireRack has the KYB GR-2s available.
