Need some help with search/ gauging interest

Ok as some of you know I'm working on putting a functional hood scoop on my Max. I have stumbled upon a gift from the heavens, but with any gift there's a price.

I have found a company that is willing to make any scoop I want. I have given him rough deminsions (actual deminsions will be sent when I arrive home). But he is asking for a design for the scoop itself. I threw the original plan to use the gauge pod opening design from NIN autosports. I'm looking for something instead with a nice low clean cut opening. Something along of the lines of 10"x4" opening.

I have browsed the internet for the past 3 days... and I'm starting to have nightmares about hood scoops. So I figure it was time to stop. And see what my fellow members can come up with.

Now for the gauging interest part.

I've mentioned his way about some fiberglass fenders for the Maxima. But I'd figure I could really peak his interest if I have a few people behind me with down payments for some. So I'll throw it out there.

To help with this process here's the website. www.fibersmith.net You can take a look at all the items he's made. He has a couple of import items... but nothing for the Max.

I would but I there's a common issue on that... TIME. I wish I did have the time to do all that. I'm going to have to take leave from work as it is to build the air box. And setup a hood to fit around the scoop. Those I can do easily. I'd have to spend more money getting all the stuff I needed to do make it. I already have to buy a new hood as it is... mine has too much hail damage worth repairing.

Plus I don't mind helping out the local economy. I have an uncle who does a wood work. Plus, the prices that I've seen for the stuff this guy makes isn't outragoues. And he's been one of the few that have actually emailed me back. Some of the other companies didn't respond at all, or their quality of work wasn't all that great.

I want a NACA duct, it doesn't clutter up the lines of the car and have been proven to work.

So is no one interested in fenders? He listed fenders for an old 308 on there for $399 for the pair... basicly $200 ea. I figure we could talk him to the same price if not lower.

But if no one is really interested, I won't bother. I can already how this would cause a debate.

As for the scoop... it does seem old style, and I want something that doesn't slant down so much.

Internetautomar... you have a picture of the NACA duct. I've never heard of it and getting the feeling of my leg being pulled here...

Hey does anyone know where I can find a picture of a 300zx hood scoop. The guy was telling me it might be the size I need.

That washing machine has a turbo? Sweet!

All kidding aside, the z31 turbo scoop is nice and would probably be my choice.

Where are you going to put it? If you put it above the intake manifold (so that its right in the middle of the hood, not offset somewhere), I might be interested. I was toying with the same idea about a year ago, but its far down on my list of Maxi projects.

No, my plan is for a fully functional scoop... I'm going to be building an air box where the old filter box used to be. And cut the hood so it'll close around the scoop. I think that'll be the easiest way of doing it. Saves trying to build the box just right so it'll seal against the hood.

BINGO.... Saves trying to mold a scoop onto the hood. And I don't want something with gaps shown above... to ricey... now the shaker hood gap... that's old school.

The guy already told me he isn't doing custom work right now. But if there's enough people interested in the fenders, he'll make those. Bummer, but he has been really helpful in sending designs he's seen, as well as some tips for modifying a scoop so it'll fit my design.
