its been quite fun... but, i'm moving on

Yep... I'm actually getting rid of the Maxima

I finally decided that I'm getting tired of working on it mostly because I'm tired of these pieces of **** that they call a transmission. The input shaft bearing has been broken for about a year and being that it'd be the fourth time that I'd have to replace it, I'm just quite tired of it.

On top of the tranny there's also a nice hole in the trunk about the size of a baseball where the seatbelt retractor used to mount and it doesn't seem as though Nissan is going to do anything about it since it has already been worked on or something.

I definitely wish it would have all been different as I'm probably not even half way done with the stuff I wanted to do to this thing. I'm actually planning on keeping the engine and whatnot as I've decided to put it in a truck that I have and I also have the Datsun 280Z so I'm definitely not done with Nissan at all. The truck will just be my backroads/winter/whatever driver, the Z will be my track car (which I'm looking to hit 9's in or so), and the daily driver will be a very nice 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder.

It's definitely been fun while it lasted. Having a turbocharged Maxima is definitely a blast but, I guess it just wasn't meant to be or something. I'll have a lot of stuff for sale but am not planning on selling any of my engine/turbo stuff.

Here's the link to all of the stuff that I have for sale Maxima-wise. The catch about these is that I absolutely must sell as much of these as I can today (Wednesday the 30th of March). http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=392502

well, i'm planning on keeping the engine and still using it so the Cookson Intake Inc. might still be in the future

i might throw together a few manifold setups and such for those who want to turbo their maxima since i have the design and everything. not sure when it'll happen though, gotta get the Z done first.

Sorry to see you go. I am just up the road (100+ miles) and quail hunt only a few miles from you. I was hoping to see the turbo-max someday.

go see it now while it still exists!

I'd be leaving my max but the guyt with the car I want hasn't gotten back to me yet.
the replacement would be at minimum AWD, most probably with a turbo.

i'm sure i'll probably stick around here a bit helping out and post whoring when i can (most likely all out of habit )

if i do end up making some turbo manifold setups and such i'll definitely let everyone know about it.

yeah, they're all pretty sweet. an MKII turbo = but... they're a bit unreliable and definitely quite heavy. i loved the nimbleness that the Spyder has. being that they're right under 2200 lbs. they are quick with the low 138 hp and corner extremely well. probably the thing that surprised me most when i drove one the other day was the low end power. i swear the thing felt stronger at low rpm's than my maxima did. i'm sure that's mostly due to the weight difference but probably also due to my lower compression and leaky exhaust manifolds

here's the beaut that i'm buying:

Well, good luck in the future, and good idea with going with the Z...I did the same thing myself, just waiting for the summer to drive it. So what's going on with the Z so far?

basically i just need to buy a few parts to put the engine back together then its time to fabricate the motor mounts and just about everything else (turbo manifolds, tranny crossmember, etc. etc.) i'm aiming at 600 whp to start with which should put me into the low 10's high 9's or so. once i do some building to the engine i'll probably shoot for 800 whp or just whatever the thing can handle.
