WHooo sound coming from wheel area, Help!

Hi, I just noticed this whooo sound coming from the front right wheel area and think that I may need a new bearing or something of the sort. The car has 70k and 18x8.5 wheels w/+40 offset. I say this because I know that oversized wheels can prematurely wear bearings.

The sound is not loud and nobody really notices it. It's only an issue with the driver, ME!

Anyone experience this yet?

I was thinking the same thing, just didn't post. Good times.

But yeah, could be a wheel bearing.

I am having the same problem. It is on the passenger side and I can really hear it at low speeds and when I turn at low speeds. Can't tell if it is the brakes-which I don't really think it is or the bearing. Does that sound like symptoms of a bad wheel bearing?

Wheel Bearing. GaMax97GLE has the same issue and it is a bad wheel bearing.

It can be a wheel bearing, or an about-to-go strut, anything wear and tear like that goes with time, I got a noisy wheel bearing in the rear, it doesn't bother me all the time, just when i hook really hard left turns.

Well My Illuminas are only about 6 months old. Not sure if those are it although I am getting slight nosie from them, front and back passenger side, when I am going slow and over bumps or turning, mostly sounds like the actual spring moving though or compressing of the spring.
I don't believe it is too good to drive around awhile on a bad bearing. Anyone gotten one replaced? How much was it?

I have the same issue coming from the front passenger side wheel. Sometimes it is a creaking sound like if something needs to be lubed. I checked my springs and the rubber protector is on the spring so it was not that??? This did this a few months back then stoped, then back again, then stoped, and now back today. If you think your strut is bad, try pushing down on the car a few times and see if you still here this sound. I will be taking mine to the dealer next week and have it checked out.

Let me know what they find out, but it seems more like creaky springs-minus the bearing/grinding thing.

All of you who are hearing this noise should check your wheel bearing and hub assembly. If the wheel bearing is worn, the hub assembly could be worn as well.

Any more news on the cost of replacing wheel bearings? Is it rather easy to do?

do not know how much it costs--but you need some kinda bearing puller or a press--but you gotta take the hub assy off for the press

So is it something you should take to a shop to get done?

I'm having the same problem on my driver's side. It's starting to get annoying. Only happens when I drive slow or turn to the right. How much does a new wheel bearing run?

it might be your wheels. i used to have 17x7 on my car at one point and one of them made a horrible humming sound. i changed to 18x8 (a new set) and the car is quiet.

I think that's about right. Forgot how much I paid in total because I had to replace the wheel bearing and hub asembly. My friend said the sound was not coming from the brakes so I was a bit concerned. So i just took my car to the dealer.

Mine sounds like the brakes rubbing too but it's not. I just put on new rotors and pads a few weeks ago. I had the problem before I put them on and I still have it now. I'm pretty sure it's the wheel bearings. I found a place online that sells them for $55. Now I just have to find someone to put them on.

Link me for the bearings. Thanks.
I need to put on new rotors and pads too, but I didn't know if that would fix it.
Do you hear the noise at low speeds or when you are turning? It isn't too good to drive on bad bearings for too long is it?

Hearing something on my max too. It's coming from the front passenger side. I don't think it's the brakes since I hear it without applying them. I only have 78,000 kms (52,000 miles) too

I just wish I could tell if it is my brakes or wheel bearing. There has to be a way. I hear the noise without braking but that doesn't mean it isn't the brakes. I am leaning towards bearings though.

I had that same problem. I could be accelarating or coasting at a slow speed and hear noise. The service manager said when they lifted the car they could actually move the wheel just a little, even though it was bolt on. He said i was lucky that i brought the car in when i did. Not sure if this is worth doing but you could try jacking up the car and try jerking on the wheel. Not sure how much movement would constitutes to say that it's the wheel bearing, but it might be worth a try. If not, take it to a shop and have it checked out. Hope this helps.

You can get them here.. I hear the sound at slow speeds and whenever I turn to the right. I need to find someone to put the bearings on for the low since they don't cost that much..

Similar problem here

Evertime i hit a small bump in the road the damn wheels make a squeeking sound. its small enough for just me, the driver, to hear but large anough to **** me off. i've brought my 2k3 to nissan about 5 times just on this but they cant figure it out. they thought it was something in my trunk so i completely emptied my car out. the squeek is still heard. i cant hear it at fast speeds but at slow speeds its annoying. Right now the only solution is the volume control to make the music loud enough to not hear the squeek. Anyone else have a similar problem or know what the cause could be or how to fix it???

Mine was my bearing too. I got it replaced last week. A good way to tell is if you jack the wheel off the ground and then push in on the wheel from the bottom of the wheel and see if there is any play in the wheel. You shouldn't be able to push it in or out. If so, that means your bearing is worn.

mine does the same thing...dealer said they checked the suspension and it was fine ....i thought i had read a posting on somewhere on this site about the squeaking coming from the little rubber thingies on the car that the hood rests on (?????i dunno what they are called, sorry!) i haven't bothered to take it back to the dealer--they are just going to tell me they cannot duplicate the problem. nissan dealerships bite
