600 miles on 1 tank of gas
well I went yesterday and picked up Maxima-4DSC's car. I did not speed at all on the way back I set the cruse to the exact speed limit and it took me almost 13 hours to go 600 miles but I filled up as soon as I left his house and then I filled up when it hit the 1/2 tank mark. then when I got home it was just above the 1/2 mark again. so I got 600 miles to 1 tank of gas

Must say I am rather miffed when people report 600mi on a tank when I compare to my consumption!
I dont know how tank sizes differ in different part of the world, but locally we have a 65l tank fitted (bone dry tank that left car stranded refilled) and I will be damned if I can do a lot more than 620km on a tank with some fuel left to cool the pump and keep the car running.
Now 600mi equates to 960km (km=mi*8/5) on a 60 (?) liter fill - and on a tank the size of MY Max, my wife's little 1600 Golf can MAYBE get that sort of consumption - the VG for sure NOT!

30mpg -abOut- 8L/100km
Tank is 70L, cannot see how/why it would be different t here. Maybe its because u all live there upsidedownside ...?

I had my conversion factors screwed there when I posted and corrected it.
1Mile = 1.6Km
Assuming a gallon is 4.5 liters, then 30mi/g is 10.6km/l - now that figure I believe because on long trips I also see 10.5km/l when driving nicely and I know my Max is in good tune.
But to take the tank and distance thing as reported:
600miles = 960km
Lets assume a 70liter tank - ie - 15.5 gallons till completely empty.........
That will give you a figure of 38.7mi/gallon ..............
Thats what is so amazing to me!

...now we enter to real int'l waters, who can fathom THAT??? Nearer to me is the sami-people [Not BriTish] -those sami-people count their distances as reindeer-pees... so Maxi mum I get 3 reindeer-pees per gallon

Look at this mESS:
- 1 gallons (US) is equal to 3.79 liters
- 1 gallons (British) is equal to 4.55 liters
- 1 tablespoon is equal to 0.01 liters
- 1 reindeer pee is one gallon?

Wow...I just set my trip meter thingie last week when I filled my tank and I got around 260-270mi on it!!! But that was also mainly in-town miles (I didnt let it get completely down to "E" either...I still had about an 1/8th of a tank left).
I dont even know how many gallons the 91 SE models hold so I cant figure out my exact mpg yet....I need to check in the manual. Unless, of course one of you nice, smart, helpful, guys who know all about the 3rd generations wants to chime in and let me know how many gallons it holds!

If you think you got over 35mpg, then you're full of ****.. unless you were going downhill with a heavy tailwind the whole time.
600 miles/ 17 gallons per tank = 35.29mpg. no way you got that. physically impossible.
it's possible, just not likely.
pull all the seats out, door panels, stereo, A/C, window regulators and motors , switches, wires, remove mirrors, tape over body seams.
it's doable
oh yeah, also needs to be a stick, without ABS , sunroof or airbag.
Don't forget too leave out the spare tire and remove the bumper reinforcements.
you can also use a lighter battery. remove the hood supports too. run narrower tires. remove the carpeting and sound deadening material.

well if it helps it has no spare and its a stick lol. I know for a fact that I drove over 350 miles before I filled up again and at that time it was right on 1/2 a tank. I think that I did get that good of MPG because the whole time I was at or under 2,500 rpms and it was a constant speed. the only time I ever passed anyone was truckers when they were going up a hill. lol.
i agree i can get 125 from full to 3/4, 100 from 3/4 to 1/2 but only 125 fom 1/2 to empty thats about 350 to 15gal which is about 23mph half hiway half city
i took a trip last week and got about 27mpg 410miles to 15 gal but i was going about 80mph which puts me at about 3200rpms

Another factor to think of even when you measure with mileage driven and gallons measured.... VARIABLES. Such things as, different shut off moments at different pumps, temperature varying the evaporative amount of fuel, differing angles of pump islands, etc.
The closest accurate description of your fuel economy can not be defined without multiple data points. Get 525 miles and a 15 gallon fill for several tanks in a row, then you can tell me about the 35mpg. Until then, it's all correlative.
BTW. With my addiction to the 6 on my tach, I could never even dream of getting 30 mpg. So, if you do achieve those numbers with multiple fills... Don't tell me!!!

My car usually gets to 250 miles right at the halfway mark on the gas gauge.. but then the whole bottom half of the gas gauge gets used up in less than 100 miles. OMG!!!??1one11two
Anywho, I truly DID get 514 miles to a tank once.. When I finally filled up I calculated that I actually had a gallon and a half of gas left too

I am averaging about 250 miles to the tank... do you think there is something wrong? I just put in a new air filter, my emissions are great, and i am going to get a tune up in about 4000 miles... i will reach 120,000 then. I just figured since my car is 15 years old (1991) it just eats a little gas... but after looking at ya'lls #s maybe i am wrong. Any brilliant ideas or suggestions?
Gawdalmighty I'm getting a HEADACHE from reading the lack of logic in this thread! Simple rule of thumb: NEVER believe your gas gauge.
Fill up, set the trip odometer, run 200 - 300 miles, fill up again. Divide miles driven by gallons used (miles ÷ gallons = MPG).
Today, I filled up (14.35 gallons), after having driven 357 miles. My mileage was 24.87 MPG. Thus: 357 ÷ 14.35 = 24.87. Any other "mileage calculation" (especially one that claims 600 miles/tank) is not based in reality. 350 miles on ½ tank (8.5 gallons) is fantasy.

Mpg is always varying a lot, depending on lots of variables... Maxima 30mpg is possible if all ok, sun shines, happy driver. 10mpg is possible if all ok, sun shines, brakes dragging, mind sagging, KS lagging etcetc.
And as said here many times over, my mile, is not his mile, is not your mile. My full tank today, is not his full tank , is not your full tank, is not my full tank week ago. EVERY "measure" differs more or less.
All car gauges give their own vague indication: nobody would pay for precision gauges, calibrations, precision measurements.
What can be done fairly accurately, is comparing last two FULL fillings (on same station) with two fillings before that - in one vehicle. Still gas dealers stealing with "tuned" gaugechips is NOT possible to verify...
Sure it does not hurt to check how much was mpg last time, and think why...
I get around 450 - 550 klms a tank, and yes the tank is 70litres.
thats about 350 miles a tank, wouldn't dream of getting anywhere more than 600klms a tank. But my ecu is coming up with injector codes so until i get that fixed im stuck with the guzzle.
Also i know our tanks have a huge reserve cause i've driven over 80k's below empty till the engine died, the light came on and i still drove like 60 more k's. With a few jerry cans in the boot of course just a little test i performed when i was bored.

well I checked my bank statement and I got about 10 gallons of gas the time that I filled up. but I do have to agree with you that my gauge is off. I had 1/2 a tank left when I got home then I took about a 2 hour trip yesterday and it went from 1/2 to between 1/4 and E. so it must be off. but still 350 miles on 10 gallons of gas thats still 35 MPG. but like I was trying to explain all the way through pennsylvania was basically 55 mph. when I got gas I was about a mile away from the border.
so I was driving at exactly 55 mph, about 2,000 rpms, non stop only changed lanes about 3 times. no ac on or anything like that. and I drove 350 miles on 10 gallons like that.

blazer is worse.. it will stay well ABOVE F for 2 days, then slowly wind down and suddenly skyrocket to E
Thats nuts. I have never ran my car on the highway for one full tank after I got new injectors and sensors, etc. I did manage to get 100 miles on a 1/4 running 75 mph straight with no stops though. The highest I have seen my tank go is 375 miles in city/highway driving combination when the light came on.
