Aight well i bought my 2002 at 96,000 and i just hit 100k and I don't know how well the last person kept this car and what did and didn't change. The car still runs perfect and looks perfect. But if ya could give me sum ideas on what i should probably change or services i should do. The owners manual just gives you sum basics and basically just tells you to take the car in to the dealership.

The manual will give a full detailed list of things that need to be done. Unless you are a DIYer, have them perform it all. If you purchased the car from a Nissan dealership, they can pull up the car's history with respect to maintience performed by Nissan technicians.

I wouldn't consider taking a Maxima with 100K on it to a dealership. Can you not get the maintenance history on the car?

Do you have any idea when the oil was last changed?

You should check the condtion of all fluids for starters: transmission, transaxle (if manual), radiator, power steering, brake.

Have you checked the air filter, belts, hoses?

A lot of what should be done is visual checks. If you are not mechanically inclined, take the manual into a shop that specializes on Nissans/Japanese cars and get them to give it the once over if you aren't capable of doing it yourself.

Not a knock on you, but 100K on a 2002 Maxima is excessive. Did you get it really cheap?

on top of the typical fluid replacements/flushes, i would consider replacing the plugs since there is a good chance they are original and doing the fuel filter.

My 100,000 mile REPORT CARD

and it always seems like way more in Kilometers, (171,000 km's to be exact)

Engine: 10 still purrs like the day it first started up.no power or oil loss
AutoTranny: 9.5 Still smooth as silk, except the odd really cold winter day>overdrive till it's warmed up for a few minutes
Rotors:3 change once per year
Air: 10 still friggin cold enough
electricals: 10 the odd rear bulb
metal finish: 8.5 usual chips but 2x/year Zaino= "almost new" look
Maxima.Org stickers:9 After 4 years, still holding up great!
Other Problems: 8 other than the odd loose heat shield..nothing has gone wrong.
Longevity Expectations: 10 Hoping for at least another 100,000 miles!

Essential pampering: Sunoco Ultra 94 only;synthetic motor oil change every 3500 miles; K&N filter; one rad flush to date; one new set of plugs, and looking for tire set #3, possibly Proxes 4; and of course..ZAINO

Just did plugs on my 01 with 104K miles on it, last time I did them was around 55-60K miles. I was expecting some oil leaking from the valve covers, nothing was there. Expect the 3.5L to have leaking spark plug gromets under the valve cover- and oil will get down to the plugs. I would do fuel filter, tranny flush, brake fluid flush, radiator flush, change the pollen filter, air filter, do injector cleaning, spark plugs. Thats all you need to do to keep it runing for another 100K miles. I do my coolant flush every 30K, same goes for everything else, I just flushed out my Power steering fluid with some Redline synthetic stuff. Make sure the tranny cooler lines are not leaking also- as its a common thing on Nissans to happen when they get old.

thanks guys on all the feedback, and yeah almost all of the miles were hwy miles, the last owner lived outside of houston in sum hick town, drove to houston everyday. Managed to keep the car in perfect condition. Nothing wrong with tranny, interior is perfect, outside the only problem was guy did not have a bra driving all those miles, so i'm going to repaint the front bumper. I mean the oil looks fine when i changed it. I bought it for $10,000 the guy traded it in for a new BMW he got $9,500. I bought it a hour after he traded the car in at the bmw dealer.
