Its no different from any other pod except that it can suck more air through the top..

XStream Air Flow Tops
Replaces the top of your existing round filter.

K&N gives you the power you've been looking for with the new XStream® Air Flow Top.

Not only does the XStream® add filter area, it actually redirects airflow inside the filter to pull in more air through the side pleats for even greater performance efficiency. Cleanable and reusable, the XStream® Air Flow Top filter delivers the best protection available for your engine, and comes in a wide range of applications. Sizes include 9-, 11- and 14-inch diameters. The 14-inch tops are available in anodized black, red, blue or polished aluminum trim ring.

That is what you call a MEVI...middle easter variable intake...it has dual runners instead of the AIM (American Intake Manifold)...one set is used for lower rpms and once higher rpms are reached the other set opens up and allows more air to enter the engine...good for higher top end HP...put this on and other mods and you'd probably eat a wrx just like you would any other four cyl...(maybe not an STi tho...)

This might be worth looking into. The shape of the cone does look like it makes maximum use of air flow intake.
