sadly i have to sell the max
well due to personal problems the max has to be sold. i had it for about a month sucks right. well just a question should i buy another used max or should i get another car? im not lookin for no brand new **** jus a used car that is cool any of u guys have suggestions? for instance if u had to buy another car besides a max what would u get? thanks
Not sure you gave enough info in your post. If you have to sell the Max for personal reasons, why are you asking if you should buy another one? Unless you mean the personal reasons are something like your current Maxima broke down.
Anyway, regardless of the situation, I would not recommend a Maxima, used or new, as they have outlived their usefulness--they were hot in 1994, and then cheap in 1997-99. Today, they are neither. The only exception I would make is if it were a hand-me-down, i.e. the car was purchased new by a relative or close-friend, and they are willing to give it to you for wholesale. Or if you're lucky, maybe even free from a parent. Because as you can see, on this forum, people are having all kinds of varying problems with their 6-10 year old Maxes. My guess is they got the vehicle second-hand and may be the 2nd to even 4th or 5th owner.
My philosophy is buy new what you can afford NEW, and keep for 5 years min., preferably 7+. Drive what you have now until you can do the above. A car is an absolute luxury, so treat it and its expenses as such. And never, ever, ever, get robbed I mean lease.

buying a new car is the worst investment. value decreases by like 15% as soon as u get it off the lot. i prob wont be able to get another max so what others cars would u guys get. once again it is a personal problem just lookin for a littl help on the next car i should get

..... A car is an absolute luxury, so treat it and its expenses as such.
My car is a necessity for me to get to work. I cant walk 10 miles everyday, and there is no public transportation.
There are many 4th gens on the road because there were many of them sold, especially in 1998-99 when they were going for as little as $17,495 brand-new, with $2500 rebates. Look to see who is driving them, mostly an older, middle-aged crowd, who have kept these cars and are the original owners.
The appeal of a Maxima to a younger person seems on the used market seems to be its luxury features, ridiculously low price, flagship image, and blah-blah-blah Bose, leather, etc. They're not reasons to pass on a more reliable car with less of those features. If someone came to me and said they were looking for a used car, I would never recommend they search for a used Maxima.
Anyway, to the original poster:
A car is not an investment at all, it's a luxury. So you want to minimize how much is wasted on that. Two ways of accomplishing that are to buy new to avoid the headaches and repairs needed on even 3 year old cars, or push that 3 years into the future. The other is to buy new, take care of the vehicle, minimize future repairs, and not switch vehicles before necessary. A modern car is fully capable of 7+ years--it's the itchiness to drive something new that causes people to replace sooner.
Anyway, not knowing your situation and because you say new is not an option, I recommend buying an "undesirable" car that a mag like Consumer Reports or Digest recommend used. Undesirable usually adds up to lower insurance and lower retail used price. Here you must do your own homework, but I would guess that your research will lead to Korean-made cars. If money were no object, then it'd be a Honda or Toyota product for sure.

Good luck man!
Peace
Like stated go with one of the 3 best Nissan,Toyota, or Honda.
Are you just asking what we would buy if we had to get another car based on our finacial buget? if you give us how much your willing to spend then that could better help.
I myself if I were getting another car would get New car or say a year old 350Z or G35, I would like to get an older car and tune it up but I would like a new-er car first and enjoy the fruits of that.

Definitely never buy new. I bought one new car years ago and it was the worst mistake ever. You lose so much money that way! I don't know why some people seem intent on knocking the Maxima. Sure the newer ones have kind of sucked but I got given my 95 for free and it's been by far the most reliable car I've ever owned. As long as you keep up on the basic stuff (oil changes, tire rotations, etc) just about any japanese car will last forever. I know people who are driving Altimas and Camrys with almost half a million miles on them! Drive it until it dies, then buy another clean used car. That's my motto.
The only good think I feel about getting a new car is that warantee that comes with it, I know that doensnt always work, but I'm a fighter in the sense that I wont let them get out of not honoring the warantee I'd make it my business to cause as much comotion to get the job done.
with that said the New Z or G coupe with 300HP would be a dream

j/k
cheap under~5-6k cars that are fun to drive
1991+ mr2 trubo
90-99 awd turbo eclipse
1990-93 celica awd turbo
these car are nice because they respond to modding very well unlike our cars and parts are usually easy to find and cheap (except the mr2) and its stock turbo

This poster is funny, he has personal problems which he doesn't specify, and then he wants a sports car for 5 grand. He says no Civics. Is that by choice or by the fact that he doesn't have enough money for a Civic?
With 5 grand, you'd have to go back to 2001 even with a Hyundai Elantra.
There's no way we can answer his question from his perspective, as he wishes, because we are not in his shoes, i.e. personal problems, no money, no civics... Thank goodness!
Sports car? howzabout 1986 Corvette?

With 5 Grand you should be able to find a good 240 on ebay with a solid body but jacked up block ( about $500 or a Grand), throw an sr20det in (prob about 2gs) all the FI gooddies you'll need prob another Grand, then change for new tires if needed, and other minor tweaks. Then you'd have a very powerful FI car.
Thats what I'd do with 5grand but I'd want to have a daily driver while the 240 when under the knife.

As for the cars for 5000, hard to say. I'd go for a max to tell you the truth. I think thats the best thing for the price. Thats quite an interesting personal problem you have...that forces sell your max and think about buying another max...go for it! lol
dude... u would be hard pressed to get anything much better than the max for 5 grand
neways...i've done my research on cheap fast cars and here's what I know of. feast your eyes on a very rough overview of the only cheap fast cars I could find when I was looking for one myself(i eventually decided on maxima). These cars are all roughly equivalent in 0-60 and quarter mile times with the exception of AWD talons and eclipses which get slightly better 0-60 at expense of higher repair costs for AWD systems.
all cars are stick and all cars get ~6.7 0-60 ...all should be for sale at ~5k for a 1994-1996 year
Maxima SE/GXE(4th gen)-very nice torque, nice space, nice gas milege, fairly reliable, sorta bad modability, good insurance cost, easy to find
------------------------------------------------
the car that won me over. Reliable, not impossible to find, big enough for me and my buds, decent gas mileage, and non-sportscar insurance rates. This car won't get you labeled as a ricer
Integra GSR (2nd gen)-Low torque, low space, very good gas mileage, revs super high(like 8k redline or something), very reliable, very good modability, bad insurance cost, hard to find
------------------------------------------------
might have gotten one if I could find one... Very bad torque (like 128 ft lbs,no more burnouts
), but still fast. Honda reliability and a huge mod community. Very good gas mileage, about 3-4 mpg better than maxima. very tiny though, good luck fitting more than like 3 ppl in this thing. Revs to insane rpm and sounds cool. sports-coupe bad insurance rates. This car might get you labeled as a ricer
Eclipse GSX(awd)/GST(fwd) (2nd gen)- used turbocharger = bad news, medium torque, low space, decent gas mileage, sorta reliable(used turbos are bad news), very good modability, bad insurance cost, easy to find
------------------------------------------------
Used turbocharger is bad news, been told so by every car guy i've talked to including an ex mechanic and a kid deep into modding. If ur still interested, the AWD in the GSX caught my eye, and so did the huge modding community(type "dsm cars" into google). Kinda small but not too bad. Pretty good gas mileage and sports-coupe bad insurance rates. The turbocharger is what took this one off my choice list. This car will get you labeled as a ricer
Eagle Talon TSI(fwd)/TSI AWD(1990-1994)-company outta buisness and used turbocharger=hard to find parts, will take most eclipse parts though, used turbocharger = bad news, medium torque, low space, decent gas mileage, sorta reliable(used turbos are bad news),very good modability, bad insurance cost, easy to find
------------------------------------------------
same as eclipse(they are practically the same car), except Eagle is outta buisiness. If ur short on money u could get one of these and use eclipse parts(talons are a dime a dozen), but im not sure of the extent of shareability for parts between these cars, so you could end up in trouble. Again, look up "dsm cars" in google.
Taurus SHO(1990-1996)- very nice torque, nice space, bad gas mileage, sorta reliable(engine is from yamaha but its still a ford), decent modability, good insurance cost, medium to find
------------------------------------------------
This car is big in comparison to the other cars I found. It weighs about 300 more than the maxima which wieghs about 300 more than the other cars itself. It has more raw power than the other cars if that kind of thing is your bag. Very nice space because of its size but also very bad gas mileage compared to other cars (like 5 mpg worse). Engine is reliable becuase ford outsourced it to yamaha, but the rest of the car is still built like a ford. Modding community is bigger than maxima but not huge. Has good insurance costs like maxima and somewhat easy to find. I didn't get one of these cuz the good years ended in 1995(DONT GET 1996+, THE NEW V8 SUX), and my dad wanted me to get 1996 or newer. This car has only a slight chance of getting you labeled as a ricer.
basically, keep with ur maxima cuz ur not likely to get anything better. Only cars I might consider better are integra GSR, and AWD versions of TSI and GSX. But integra is really small, and TSI/GSX have used turbos(BAD NEWS), and these have bad insurance rates. Even then, these cars are only slightly better and you will lose more money than the difference is worth

yeah, i dont know what car is going to be better than a Maxima, reliability-wise, gas mileage, insurance, bla bla for 5k or under. It doesnt jump out to an insurance company as a sports car, yet when modded properly, can be just that. I dunno what your personal problems are, but i dunno why you would get rid of it, then spend 5k on something else. You made it sound like you were low on $$$ and had to sell. But if i were to get another vehicle other than my maxima, i would get...a maxima.
Try to keep the car you got first. if that's not possible, for WHATEVER reason, try to get a lightly used Maxima, fourth-gen or above. And,contrary to what some b!tc#-a$$ traitors on this forum have said, a Maxima is the best performance value for your money, new or used. I was blessed enough for my Dad to give me his, and that car will last AT LEAST 200,000 miles without further problems beyond a fuel injector replacement.Even used and abused, a Maxima of a recent generation is a good deal. And can blow the doors anything else with four doors that has a "made in Japan" sticker . If it's in good condition, it'll last indefinitely. I reccomend another Maxima. The other cars are maybe as reliable and twice as slow.
