give me your insight on this situation.

So today i was at the cemetery to respect the dead(chinese tradition). I was parked and i was in the car with my brother. This guy in a LS430 was trying to parallel park and backs into my rear bumper. I got out of the and was like "look where youpark man, you just me". I look and their's a small scratch. I ask him if he's going to pay for this. And his brother was like ITS SO MINOR ITS!!!! and the he's tring to argue with me. I make a big deal because he was arguing with me and saying there's other scratches on the car bigger then the one his brother just made. and it seems like he doesn't want to give me his information.

my brother says don't make a big deal out of it and i say no. He didn't want to give me his information and i was making it a big *** deal with my brother because he was like forget about it's minor damage... obviously he's going to say that since its not his car.

So what would you do. Would you make a big deal out of it?

Its your car, and you just got the bumper repainted and show at car shows?

Here, I believe it's the law to exchange information. Little scratch or big scratch, he should still pay for any damages.

If you were concerned about it, you should have called the police while he was there.

It doesn't matter if it's a minor damage or not, he hit the vechicle. It's the law to exchange info if you need to report it. However, pursuing it, is that all you need to do is get his plate number and have it run through the Motor Vechicle to get his info and insurance and go after his insurance since if he refused to exchange info with you. That can consider a hit and run.

I'd say that you have a 4yr old car, not some rare exotic vintage vehicle, so smthg that can be buffed out or easily touched up is not a big deal. If, on the other hand, the paint is stripped to bare metal and the touching up will make the whole panel look ugly, definetely go run this guys plates at DMV and file claim with his insurance.

If it really wasn't that bad (could be easily buffed out), I would've let it go. Somethings just aren't worth the hassle IMO.

I agree.

But if its something that would need more than touch up paint you should have pursued especially if you go to car shows and such, they will notice imperfection and it could cost you a specific place.

Do you have any pics?

i went through the same thing and i got all the info. no matter how big or small the scratch is, its still there. plus since you enter car shows, your car has to be perfect.

I got hit back in December and im just now taking my car in next week to get it fixed. Granted it was a minor accident on the other guys behalf, it cost nearly $2000.00 to fix. I sure as hell made a scene! And im only 140#'s soakin wet!

I'd get their information for sure. As to how far I take it, that would depend on the person's attitude after they hit my car...
In your case I would've told the brother to keep his comments to himself and handle the situation with the driver.

If he refused to give me his info, I would have gotten his license plate and gone to the cops.

He did go to the cops. And he's claiming way more than what the actual damage is. Ie.. telling the dude it will cost hundreds when he will just take the $ and just buff the scratch out.
