Someone on the forum showed me a site that said it was harmful (or something to that extent) to use Bosch.

Use the NGK copper versions if you have to. But avoid Bosch at all costs

There are too many spark plug questions. All of them are the same. Please we need an FAQ or something.

Bosch plugs suck! But what I don't understand is what the factory-spec spark plugs were doing you wrong... why would you not put in factory NGK's? They have engineers researching these things and specifying exactly what the cars need. For minuscule, if any, price savings the cost of awful plugs aren't worth it. In many makes and models Bosch O2 sensors, plugs, etc. have been reported as sub-par and certainly below factory performance. A Jeep Grand Cherokee I had a while ago I put in Bosch O2 and plugs. They immediately caused pinging, rough idle. New Mopar O2 sensor and factory Champion plugs were put in and it ran great!

Bosch spark plugs

I have experimented with Bosch platinums in several cars over the past dozen years or so (starting with a '93 Altima SE and '93 Max SE, as well as several other Nissans and Acuras) - they are lousy! With the exception of good cold starting they seem to have very few virtues. They all seem to have a common tendancy of feeling flat under pulling conditions. The restoration of power has always been noticeable when returning to an NGK or Denso plug, including regular copper plugs. I'm using Denso iridiums in my Acura and they are pretty sweet, but I consistently find that the OEM NGK's seem to work best in Maximas. Sparks like nice sharp corners of the electrodes to jump from (and the more fuel molecules in the fire path the better), and as they age/wear they become rounded and less favorable to good sparking. Tests I've seen show that new NGK copper plugs with the big center with nice big sharp electrode edges give as good firing percentage and power as the exotics. You just have to replace them more often (but at $2 a plug instead of $8-15 that's not a bad deal either - just a pain on Max's because of the covers and coils). The advantages of the platinums and iridiums are primarily the durability and that they may clean themselves better at tempurature. By the way the kids in the neighborhood love the extra Bosch's in my garage for replacements for the fouled plugs in their dirt bikes - so they don't go to waste.

I replaced mine with bosch about a year ago and since then now that i think about it - I have been having more start up problems as well as the car turning off on me. I have checked and changed the coil packs as well as my MAF and still have the problem.
Guess i need to change the Bosch Plugs back to NGK's

DO NOT USE BOSCH PLUGS!-----it's that important.....ask any honda/acura tuner, bosch plugs are great on european cars, and chevrolets, but in most japanese and especially our VQs the bosch's tend to make a lot of noise(both audibly and non), they foul very easily in our motors due to the shrouded insulator design, they for some reason collect debris from combustion on the electodes(go ahead bosch guys, pull a few and check 'em), and worst of all they lack the coating NGKs have which prevent galling of the aluminum head. Now you may say "use anti-sieze and it won't." sure, it may not stick, but you'll still be misfiring at idle, and they won't work right until their hotter than hell. They seem to run good up high, perhaps on par with other crappy plugs(Fed-Mog, Autolite, etc). But still. I ran them against my shop's request (he's a acura service manager who also specializes in nissans), and the first thing i noticed was a lower more nasty idle initially.........well in a few days that nasty idle became a nasty misfire............and in a few weeks they started to get noisey when the engine was hot and idling, like after a run or high-speed jaunt. So i pulled a few, and found deposits like crazy, one had nearly bridged the gap......so i tossed them, and tried a new set......same results, but took ~4000 miles to happen this time. Then i tossed 'em for good, go get the NGK iridiums, they're 8.49 list at NAPA, so don't let 'em BS you about 16 dollar plugs............P/N 5464 stock heat range

Thanks guys, these posts are definitely confirming and describing my experiences - let's not tell the Benz owners though - they think they have superior engineering.

There has been a lot of controversy about Bosch plugs. I've used the Platinum 4's for years and never had a problem. I actually liked them so much that I replaced them in kind the next time around. Others have not been so lucky though.

Bosch in general has been taking a lot of flack lately, since they make many of the electrical components in German cars, which are becoming notorious for electrical problems these days. VW is now sourcing their electrical components to Siemens.

I might go with NGK's the next time I do plugs, which won't be for another year or so.

I hear ya. Put the Bosch plat plugs on my Grand Cherokee limited and lost a good 2 mpg. Replaced them with new factory plugs and got 4 mpg back. I also used Bosch plat plugs on my turbo chargered (10 psi) fiero and with in a few days they fouled out.

I thought Bosch plugs were designed for high compression engines (like the VQ30/35) so I assumed they didn't work in my applications because both vehicles I put them in were low compression engines. I am surprised they don't work well with our engines.

Funny thing is my brother used them on his cavalier and had no problems. So GreenSEmax, I think you're on to something.
