Use steel wool or a wire brush to knock off existing rust, wipe clean with solvent, then hand paint with Testors model enamel paint. It takes a couple of the little Testors bottles. It will even hold up to the heat of repeated track events and comes in a million colors.

People will tell you to use special brake paints, but they are basically the same thing in a PITA spray can. The model paint saves the hassle of masking and getting overspray everywhere.

huh, yeah, testors model paints usually look pretty good, but i didn't think they would stand up to the heat, i guess. how does a hand bruched paint job look? as good as you can get it, i suppose. anything like a clear coat? or what about airbrushing like you can with models? that would be pretty controlled so masking off areas wouldn't be too necessary.

It's a cast surface, so unless you've polished it smooth, brush marks disappear quite readily. See here: http://www.clubrx.org/default.asp?id...ntent=37&mnu=5

I guess you could grind the rust off the outer edge of the disc, but it would probably flake off anyway. You could paint the hub part of the rotor, but it's mostly hidden.

I really hope you're not seriously wondering about painting the rotor surface. That would make my thank Darwin.

I think duplicolor? makes a caliper paink kit. I haven't seen or tried it yet, but have heard it is a brush on application. Spraying paint would be too much work for me. Too many things to mask off and could get overspray. Do the brush on style.

I don't know how the model paint will last, but again, i haven't tried.

Good luck and let us know how it works.

You are gonna make sure that you prep the calipers real well, that is the most imoprtant part. make sure to get all the rust and other grime off before you paint. im going to be painting my in about 4 weeks and im going to use the G2 caliper paint kit.

When I did mine about 8 months ago I just used an engine paint, turned out great. Also I recommend taking your brake pads out first, dont want to paint those.
