would u consider an 04 over an 05.. what are the problems with the 04

 

04's has some probs at the begining.... if you get an 04 make sure the date is 06/04 and up, or just go for an 05 and be safe, altho they have minor issues as well... interior quality I guess they are better (05)

 

this is not necesarily true. mine was assembled on 04/03 and i have had zero complaints.

 

I'm just going a year after they rolled off the line, no offence...





EDIT: its more likely to have that strut prob early on the built date than the latest... overall they are all good cars no matter what...

Why not wait a bit for the 06?

 

and i have a 05 SL and have most of the complains that the 04's have..i think buying cars is also..like buying a watermelon..you have to be lucky and pick and get the right one...IMO...some cars may have affects some may be bulletproof..my old 2000 maxi SE was bulletproof...NO WATSOEVER..but my new maxi has issuses..

 

I would say get a slightly used one with well under 20k mi on it since resale values are low for these cars and cheap low mi ones are so easy to find.

 

Do yourself a favor and buy a 2003 or else stick with your 1999.

I know what he said and my suggestion remains the same. Alternatively buy a G35.

From what i can see there are problems to be had with 04 or 05, I would check them both out. I originally wanted 05 but would have had to wait, found 04 with everythng I wanted and had only 10k miles on it, dealership owner drove it for a little while. I am basicly pleased with it, I am having trouble with driverside mirror and tranny jumps a bit but I do not have any regrets, I love it! it is fast, im waiting till I get a speeding ticket lol. Good luck, I am sure you will be fine with either one.

 

Have never owned a Maxima before, interested in buying one. New to this forum. I have flexibility in terms of buying an '05 now or waiting 'till the Fall to buy an '06. Plan to keep for many years. Any suggestions on pros and cons of possibly waiting for the '06? If I knew there'd be no or minor changes, I'd buy now.

 

sschumer - We don't yet know what changes will be on the '06.

If past Maxima history is any indication, the third year of most Maxima generations gets superficial cosmetic changes front and rear. We are near the practical limit for engine power in a front wheel drive car, so I don't think there will be a big HP increase. I would guess ten more HP, if any.

If you are flexible, you could wait until July. That is just a few months away. That is when '06 production should begin. By then, we will know what changes are forthcoming.

If you decide at that time to get an '05, the prices on the '05 should begin falling as soon as the '06 arrives on the lot.

 

I agree, the '06 will probably get a few cosmetic changes and hp may go up slightly, but they will not be able to do anything too dratic in the hp department until they change it from FWD, probably in the '08 7th gen Max. They may do something special with the interior and exterior, just to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Max.

 

Who says the '06 won't have any issues? Only time will tell. If your choices are between '04 and '05, go with the '05. There are always issues with cars in their first year of a new generation. The bugs are usually worked out in the following year, which is why I suggest the '05, but as you can tell by some of the 6th gen posts, that is not necessarily true 100% of the time. Personally, I haven't had any issues with my '05, but then again it only has 600 miles on it.

run away fast as you can ...my wifes 04 max is a piece of ****....never mind as a matter of fact would you like to buy an 04 smoke gray max 16000 miles .

 

This car's marketed after a specific crowd. Build quality/integrity was not a concern for Nissan with the '04. I'm, hopefully, out of mine as soon as my lawyer gets to work.

 

My '04 SL has been a pleasure to drive, and I enjoy it so much I make up excuses to take it for a drive. I just returned from a week-long trip to Mobile AL, during which I drove around 90 on fairly open freeway stretches (even at that speed, the car felt like it was idling), and drove across open fields and ditches (no road) while showing my lawyer certain situations on some property I have on the market. The car performed flawlessly in each and every instance.

My SL was built the last week of May, 2004 which was sixteen months after Nissan began assembling '04 Maximas (Jan '03) and fourteen months after they reached the dealer lots (March '03). My VIN is 920ddd, which means Nissan had built over 120,000 '04 Maximas by the time they built mine.

If buying an '04, I would go for a VIN over 890000, higher if possible. I would also insist on driving the car, checking for such things as vibration in the steering wheel, before signing anything.

If you find a good one, buying an '04 can save many thousands of dollars over buying an '05. If, however, money is no object, take the '05, which will have the full 36K miles on the warranty.
