yes i know that this has been posted on here a few times but i have been looking around and the older maximas (1st-2nd generations) had a recall on the smells
i was wondering if that recall effected our 3rd geratation maximas

I dont think so . Check the sticky on how to repair those odors , they usually come from fuel hoses in the engine bay .
1st and 2nd gen Maxs had a recall for the odors , but i dont think this is for the same reasons than the 3rd

There is a hose that runs from the top of the filler to the tank next to the main tank fill neck. I had to replace mine last year. The smell is really noticable right after you fill up, if you don't actually see the leak.
You have to use lined hose or it won't last long. Problem is that standard diameter hoses (power steering hose, trans line or fuel rated hose) at the auto parts store is too small or too big and doesn't fit well or at all. After fighting with it (geez, such a fight from a freakin' hose) I got one from Nissan (wasn't too pricey I don't think) and it slid right on... right size, soft and flexible. Anyway, I figured the original lasted 11 years and 200K, so.....
