first problem is calling it a mod.

second, are you well versed and fully able and willing to swap engines yourself, or financially able to pay for a mechanic to do it?

the KS bypass (resistor) is not recommended. If you do it, it is entirely at your own risk.

ask one of the guys that swear by it. They can answer your question. Look back a bunch of threads or pay to become a donating member and search.

it is not a mod.
it is a test procedure and should not be left on for anylength of time.
you also need to run 93 octane on it to be safe.

I am currently using the resistor DIAGNOSIS is what I call it...I have been using it for 4 days now....my gas mileage is back up....once this tank is complete I'm going to take the resistor out, and hook up my KS again...and run the same brand of gas,,, I have been using bad gas for like a year now, and I think it slowly clogging my injectors, so I think that was my prob, not my KS...
Everyone that says don't do it because it can screw your motor up, is absolutely right. I would NOT reccomment this DIAGNOSIS unless you are at least 90% sure your motor is in tip top shape and the only thing wrong with it is the possible bad KS...otherwise I would reccommend going to the dealership and spend 90 bucks or so for them to PROPERLY test the KS

you can properly test the KS with a simple multimeter, guys... it's just a freaking piezo element inside a plastic case. should read approx 500k ohms if it's working. If it reads an open circuit, then it's dead. simple as that.

an open circuit reading can also indicate a bad harness

what about heat soak? I thought heat soak could make the KS send false readings when the engine has been driven for a while?

So? Eitherway you are going to have to do the same ammount of work. Might as well replace them both when you are down there.

Your point sucks

Yea, its bs to test it with multimeter. Only way is to see actual ignition timing during drive and load. The nissan dealer tester supposedly is capable of that.

Without tester, unplug KS connector, install 0.5MOhm resitor on. Drive with high octane. My opinion is that on VGE this is ok, but on VE one must be more careful not to ruin the engine. I've been using the bypass, and will never bother to replace the KS... as I use 95 always. The only possibility for me to get lower octane, would buy a bottle here at colorado, and try to smggle it back at home...

Heres howTO pic and site (seems to be down just now...):
