Reset ECU when changing Spark plugs

I've heard that you have to reset the ECU when changing plugs. Is this true? If so, is disconnecting the battery enough or should I do the manual reset thing near the accelerator pedal?

No you don't have to reset anything if you don't want to. read the stickies on resetting the ECU the proper way.

Let me add a little more to this. Apparently, you have to reset the computer so that it recognizes and adjusts for the new plug

What? If the ECU actually does recognizes the new plugs, wouldn't you think there would be a learning curve involved with it? If so, whats the point of resetting the ECU? What exactly is it that the ECU is suppost to learn from new plugs? Was your engine seriously missfiring before? Did you get an missfire code?

If you feel that resetting the ECU will work, more power to you. No one's stopping you from doing so. The only thing I suggested is to read the FAQ above on how to properly reset the ECU.

Resetting the ECU only clears stored error codes. It does not change stored engine operating parameters. That information can be found in the shop manual.
