dude the dash is simple to take off......
1) snap off very top plastic piece that holds 2 air vents
2) snap off the shifter trim
3) Ash tray or w/e it is is connected by 1 screw...take it out and slides out
4) there are 4 screws holding the middle dash piece on there...2 up top and 2 down bottom
and YURR dunn

get an FSM it should have all the bolt in points on the dashboard and possibly a step by step on removal.

Proffesional interior places dye the dashes so this isnt a bad choice at all. It's actually on my to-do list. But, buy a Haynes repair manual and your good. Just follow the directions.

my dash is a dupont vynal paint. its not a dye, I completely removed all my interior and had a bodyshop spray the pieces with this paint. It comes in quarts. as far as my carpet, and seats and headliner, I used the SEM carpet vynal spray paint in cans, but that has since faded a bit.

dash

Im actually getting my dash trim done brown. I dont like the black either. I improved the look alittle by making my shift boots brown w/ beige stitching, instead of the ebrake being brown and the shifter being black. Check out my page for a few pics..

dash removal instructions are in the Haynes manual. It's over about 3 pages in the Body section of it. It doesn't look particularly difficult, just tedious. Not really "friends and beer" kind of work, more like "ziplock baggies, masking tape, and sharpie marker" kind of work.

I'm painting mine black. It's been about halfway done for a few months now. School has just caught up with me and I haven't had a chance to finish it. What I have done so far has been with the dash in the car. I want to actually take the dash out so I can do a better job and finish it right.

Pics so far:

hey bullfrog I never got to say thanks for sending me those pics a while back....that looks awesome!!!!!!!! ... I thought that you put in a black dash from another maxima and then I realized that you painted it...it looks amazing, like its stock........why do you want to redo it?, maybe the pic dosent reveal any imperfections ..... anyway, it looks great ........... yea you are right I just found dash removal in the Haynes.....what did you paint it with?, any sanding?..is there any fading?

Its just Krylon Interior-Exterior paint, Semi-Flat. It is very durable; no fading either, although its just been a few months. I want to recover what I have already done and get around the edges that weren't done perfect before when I did it in the car and get the rest of it finished. I also want to give it a few more coats. I'm just a perfectionist and being **** probably.
