19mm bolts vs 17mm on torque member for front brakes?

Hi I noticed that I have 19mm bolts instead of 17mm bolts on my front torque members for my front brakes. Is this normal? Also these bolts seem impossible to come off. Would WD-40 do the trick?

Thanks

I believe the 95-96 had 17mm where 97-99 had 19mm (correct me if I'm mistaken.) But my '97s are 19mm as well...

They are very tight, easiest way to get it off is to turn the wheel so that you can have a ratchet handle exiting from the wheel well and put a 2-3 foot pipe on it and pull down on the end, breaks free pretty easily like this. (If you tighten in the same manner be careful not to over torque.)

Definitely do the caliper bolts without the aide of a breaking bar, I found this out the hard way... those bolts do not need to be torqued more then what you can do without a bar. (I twisted the head off a bolt, luckily thanks to the pin design it was possible to take it off the bracket and have about 1/4" of thread to grab onto with pliers to get the bolt out.) Took me 2 hours to get a ride to a junkyard and had to grab a bolt of an i30!

Good luck

Also, if you're going to use WD-40 or something like this I'd be VERY CAREFUL not to use an excess and get any on your pads/rotors..

I wouldn't imagine having a extremely slippery (and flammable) substance on your braking surface would be a good thing...

They can get really tight over time, I broke a rear torque member bolt. It was rusted on there. This time on reassembly I used anti seize on the threads on all bolts.

Thanks guys for the tips. A Bit of WD40 and a longer bar did the trick to loosen those torque member bolts
