Fog light reto - Sneak Preview.
Here are some pics of the Bosch Mini H3 Projectors with three different H3 bulbs taken at 20 feet. They are quite smaller than I orginally thought but still give out an amazing amount of light with a very colorful cutoff. The plan was to retro fit these projectors along with the Lexus yellow capsules into the fog lights. Unfortunately, I have discovered that the capsule will not fit inside the projector because it extended beyond the projector shield. So in my infinite wisdom, I tried trimming down the capsule to fit inside the projector bowl. In the words of Short Round from IJ ToD, "Big mistake Indy." The glass was very fragile and I ended up destroying one of the capsules in the process. It just seem to shatter as soon as I started to cut it with my dremel. Looks like I will have to decide to use either the yellow capsules or these mini projectors. Anyways, enjoy these projector cutoff pics. More to come, so stayed tuned.

hey meanbean are those the projectors they have on hidplanet? do those fit in the stock foglights? i was thinking of doing that myself, but i havent even gotten around to doing my retro with a set of tl`s.
Yes, these are the ones they sell for $45 per pair over at HIDPlanet.com.
Nismo3112: Those are standard GE 1157 amber bulbs. Along with the VHT Nite Shade tint it puts out a very bright burnt orange color. (Hook em Horns!) The corner lights have been soldered to light up only the 2nd (brighter) filament. While I have never had a problem with doing this in my stock or diamond cut clear corners, other people here have stated otherwise. This is a side track discussion but I feel that the problem is cause by those who "ghetto rig" the mod by clipping the bulb nub instead which sometime causes both filaments to light up. This in turns produces more heat which in time melts the corner light. The motto of the story is do it right the first time and it will be your only time.
Anyways, back on track to the discussion of this thread. I have prelim pics showing results of output and all I can say is, "WOW!" Stay tuned for more updates.

Well, I decided on using the Lexus yellow capsules instead of the Bosch H3 projectors. I just wanted the yellow color fog lights more than a sharp and straight cutoff so it wasn't a hard decision. Here are the pics showing 1 side with the capsule and the other side unmodified. The light source is from Xtec 6000k H3 HIDs. The details on how to perform this mod to come later.
Taken during warm-up. The color shown is a bright yellow-green like the soda Mountain Dew. (It looks very cool during the day.)

After a couple of minutes, the color changes to deep yellow.

Thanks for the props everyone.
njmaxseltd: Xtec H3 HID bulbs are just standard D2S bulbs rebased to H3. The D2S bulb length will no fit into the stock fog light due to the stock shield being to short. It must be removed and reattached in order to accept the bulb length.
maximazation: As far as I know, the 95-96 fog light housing is designed the same way as 97-99. What this means is my process to retro the fog lights should still work for you.

Yes, a standard relay wiring harness is recommended when upgrading the fog lights to HID. However, you can decide to skip this if you choose since I have heard from people who don't use one and haven't had any problems.

Lookin good man, you beat me to the punch. I ordered the capsules after burning yet another set of bulbs. I managed to get the foglight open despite everyone here saying you couldn't, and I fit the capsule with mirror adhesive...that's one part I'm looking for a better solution for. It seems to be staying in there pretty well, I just have to fit and test the light. HIDTech sends you 3 capsules, so the one I made is actually just a test for the final two. Looks really good though....I'll be posting my pics when I'm done.
EDIT: As far as the HID stuff I have no idea, but I can tell you that opening the fog and fitting the yellow capsule is pretty simple. The foglights bake open, it just takes a while. I manages to ding up the fog I tried this on trying to pry it open before it was ready. The key seems to be to get it good and hot to really make sure the adhesive is melted and then just pry away. One the fog was open, you just remove the metal thing that goes over the bulb and fit the yellow capsule on there. Reseal the light and you're done.
