Convert to 97+ or keep 95-96 with DavidL clears

Just trying to get a general concensus.

I have a 1995 with spoiler (SE) and DavidL red/clear tails. I need to replace my trunk lid.

First off, can anyone confirm if the pearl white of the 95-96 is the same as the 97-99?

Ok, to the polls:

Option1: Keep 95-96 trunk lid style with DavidL tails (might not be able to get spoiler)
Option2: Convert to 97+, sell DavidL tails and make my own 97+ red/clear tails

I assume that you intend to do the full 97+ conversion including the front, not just the tail lights? If you are only concerned about the tail lights, then just keep what you have and save money...

But I voted for the full 97 conversion, if thats what you mean

can you go to the 97-99 tails with just a trunk swap, i thought the rear quarter panels were a little different too.

I always tell myself that if I ever get rear-ended, and my red/clears get ruined in any way, then Ill convert to 97'-99' rear end....if anything else is damaged im sticking with the david L's and the 96' rear..I was one of the last sets he ever made..I was part of a group deal through him..I set it up with 10 people...got mine for $120 shipped

Gotta love em

I voted different but that was before I looked down a bit and saw you have red/clears on your 96. Another vote for keeping your 96 trunk, the red clears are a beautiful thing and especially so on a 96 cause you wont see then anywhere near as often as on a 97+

But if you want a change you could mod th 97+ tails to be clear and sell those for maad $$$

The pearl white is different from 95-96 to 97-99.

Keep the 95-96 trunk lid. Having the red on the bottom of tailight looks slightly better to me. And, you're more unique with the David L's.

I prefer the 95-96 trunk and lights over the 97-99. I say keep the 95-96 trunk and add the spoiler. If you really want to do the whole 97-99 conversion then do it. It's your car and your style. BTW i'm sure I could come up with the money for the 95-96 lights and buy them off you. But like I said it's your car. Wish you the best on your decision.

Pearl Color

The pearl white color on a 95-96 Maxima IS whiter than a 97-99 Maxima. I believe its the same paint code too; however when it left the factory in 97, 98, 99 it just didn't have as much white in the mix i guess?? My paint code is "QNO" for my 1995 Maxima. Other people with 97-99 Maximas can confirm their paint code for their Maxima and post to see whether my same paint code theory is true: (It's on the sticker or the plate where your other "411" is for your Maxima including the VIN.) I'd say keep it real and stick with what you got by the way. Lata!

Yeah, keep Em.. The Red/Clears on 97-99 are common.. Like someone said, Keep em..And if anyoone was to rear end you in a way that they mess up the David L's(forbid), then i'd go with the convert to keep the red/clear look..

Selling your David L's would probably net enough pay for the entire 97 conversion

Thanks for the feedback!

My main concern is that a 97+ pearl white trunk will not match with the rest of the car and I couldn't be bothered with trying to have it repainted. Should I do the 97+ conversion, it would be only for the rear since the tails will pay for the conversion

bigtimber, nice car. I saw your pics in another thread, really like the tall grass shot.

I have a 95 SE in QN0. Before taking my car to the bodyshop, I first swapped my trunk lid for a 97+ lid and red/clears. The paint matched almost perfectly. The trunk lid was actually a little bit more white than the rest of the car. Could be because the car is 10 years old and the paint is faded? I don't really know, but it matched really well, and could not be noticed by most people unless you stared at it looking for a difference. Also, this was in the winter, so the car had not been washed for a few months which also led to a slight difference in color.

That said, definitely go for the conversion. Personally, I don't like the indentation going across the 95/96 trunk lids. So the 97+ trunk lid itself looks much better. I voted for the 97+ conversion. Good luck.

I have David Lau's clears, too, and they really stand out! I always get asked about them and after the compliment, when am I going to sell them. Don't convert and keep them until another ride catches your eye. Just my 2 cents...

i agree with drunkenmunky, the 95-96 rear end with the 97-99 front would look really nice, i like the red/clear on the 95-96, its a rarity....since i have a 96, this is something im planning to do in the very near future

I was just going to drive out to the junkyard to pick up a 95-96 trunk lid but when I called to verify they had it, bad news ... they scrapped the car.

So no trunk lid yet, going to keep looking
