All:

My OEM wood trim, having been replaced once under warranty, needs to be replaced AGAIN. That's one of the fun things about Superblack with black interior.

So this time, it ain't under warranty, and I wanted to try it myself. I feel confident I could install a Joshua Tree kit myself. . . But the removal of the old is just scary.

Any tips?

Wood Trim? I never seen one on a Maxima with wood trim or yet OEM wood trim. That's unheard of.

 

Very strange, my car has it and it came from the factory. Actually, from what I hear Nissan Motors had them installed by port employees, not really sure why as the wood appears as an option on the sticker. Needless to say the quality is poor.

 

I removed my wood trim and installed one from Joshua tree... It was a pain in the a** removing the old kit!!! I used a blow dryer to get the piece hot and loosen up the glue and also some glue remover and peeled it off. The old glue will really stick and it's quite a mess... I think there is a sticky somewhere on this. The install was pretty straight forward. My advise though is to take your time with the whole project. Once you stick the new piece on, even the smallest corner, you can't remove it without ruining the piece. The new kit looks great, after I finally installed it!!

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but on the 5th gen, ALL Maxima GLEs came with woodgrain.

 

well if you meant the GLE then I've seen them but i thought there were those fake plasticky faux wood. But on a SE model???

 

i believe everyone that owns fake woodgrain should remove that crap, its so tacky, i mean fake wood..........next people will have fake carbon fiber.....

 

Yes, My '99 SE-L came with a factory installed imitation wood kit...

And FYI...The kits from Joshua Tree are real wood

 

pushing a 99 SE, it has a dark wood grain trim around all the ****. when i got it from the used dealer some o fthe trim pieces were sun damaged and coming off. i've used an Alltool blade to take some of the pieces off when i get out of work and the interior has been baking. eventually i'll take a blowdryer or heatgun to that shizz. i've seen some interior kits on ebay for fairly cheap ($30?). figure once i get all the pieces off redo them with a straight black kit. eff the fake woodgrain, keep it clean and smooth.

 

I have the fake 'wood' but it looks more like marble. I would never choose the option if I was buying a new car but had no choice (bought used) and have grown to like it.

I've never removed it but when I got my sound system installed I saw the guy rip it off with ease so I assume it's quite easy and fairly durable (i.e. he pryed it off with a mini crow bar).

 

My maxima came with wood trim and yes it was REAL wood (I'm pretty sure it wasn't OEM). I removed it since parts of protective coating were peeling off and replaced it with black marble... fake black marble that is.
