My bday is in a few days and im wondering if this setup would be nice, i plan on adding an amp later on to bump up the power in the speaks... but as of now, do you think this is a good setup?---

Save your money and put coaxials in the rear instead of components. Components in the rear arent needed at all, and people like me usually dont have any rear speakers at all. People going for sound quality dont need much from the rear, its all about the sound stage up front.

Although Ive hated on the new Alpine decks because of lower preout voltage etc, youve got a good start for a first system (assuming its your first since your 17)

Yea, the alpine's low power output is kinda gettin to me too, primarily why ima hook an amp up to it. But other than the low power, the alpine's have proved themselves by the ones ive heard. Also, i was thinkin about just puttin three-way's in the rear, but at crutchfield, if you buy one set of polk's, the other is half-off. Im sure the rears have some play into what the system will sound like, why is it so useless to not put components in the rear? My friend has them and his sounds pretty nice... or maybe im hearin just his fronts lol

 

Ok, glad you came here to some 2nd opinions first.

HU - Alpine is just fine, but I would recommend looking into picking up last year's 9833 or 9853...much nicer decks @ a better price. Check eBay as well. Those HUs have 4V preouts and the V-Drive amp.

Front Comps - For that price, I would check out a pair from Diamond Audio or CDT.

Rear - Pick up a cheaper pair of Coaxes to be powered off the HU and save the money towards an amp.

IMHO, I would not even bother with the install until you can pick up a decent amp for the front coaxes.

 

If your rear soundstage is as strong as the front one, you will create crappy sound imaging; you want the music to sound as if it's coming from the front and front alone - alot of audiohpiles don't even run rear fill. My brother has some huge 6x9s that overpower the frontstage making it sound as if all of the music is coming from the back.

I know it looks like a good deal from crutchfield, which it is, but will result in poor sound imaging...and make your system sound cheap.

 

But even those proved to only provide about 2V +/- @ volume 30....

 

so what you are saying is, get the components up front that i showed you and put a nice set of 3 ways in the rear. Then have an amp power the front and the HU power the rears? (that could also save $$ cause a 2 way amp is a lil cheaper than a 4 way). Do you have any suggestions for some good speakers in the rear?

 

You can definately do better for the money than those listed. Personally I like rear fill, but just a simple set of coaxs is more than enough. I ran mine off an amp as my whole setup was active, so HU power wasnt cutting it for me.

Just go for the 4 channel with a good set of comps up front and a decent set of coaxs for the rear. Until you get an amp I wouldnt even bother trying to connect the comps.

I think he meant 3-way/triaxials, not 3-way comps

 

3- 4 way speakers (not comps) are the DEVIL....

Any 2way coax, even midbass will suffice for rear fill.

Either way, I still think that 2-ways ought to be good enough.

 

Save even more money and dump the rear speakers all together. You can amp the stock rears if you wanted (at about 30% of the power you give the fronts), but IMHO ... just get rid of them. You don't need them.

I think ima get a nice set of components up front that are powered by a 2way amp. Then ima have a decent set of three-ways in the rear powered by the alpine HU. Sound good to yall?

i would say run midbass in the rear or run nothing. That's the best bet.

I'd say a set of Diamond M6 or D6 components up front with a good amp and then forget about the back entirely. No stock speakers, nothing

 

Have you read anything in this thread? Did you ask the question for attention or because you valued the opinion of car audio gurus?

No 3 ways in the rear. Especially if you plan on amping them with the headunit. Find the cheapest name brand 2 way coaxial speaker you can and they'll work out just fine. Most coaxials are all made at the same factory anyway.

When you install them, make sure you turn the rear's down by fading to front. You want to barely notice they are there ...
