wheel offset ?

Hey guys I searched around some for this but did not find anything that would answer my question. My question is, would a 17x7 with a 40mm offset fit on my 87se? Would it rub the fenders? I am no wheel expert so please let me know if you are good with this stuff.

That should fit...IIRC, the stock offset on our 15X6 wheels is 40 also, so 40 on a 7 should be ok, without any major problems, but I could be wrong...

I have 18x7.5 with a 40mm offset, they fit perfectly. Only rubbing I get is from the inner splash shield of I crank the wheel all the way. I'm also running 215/35/18 tires.

I'm going to start calling you rubber band man!! I was running 235/40/18s. But now I am streching my tires a little with a 235/35/19 on a 19x8.5

you can get those, they are just harder to find. The ones you are talking about usually do not have patterns for 4 and 5 lugs on the same wheel but rather two different patterns for the number of lugs. All the wheels I have put on my 87 have been 4x100/114.3. Since we need the 4.5" then alot of times I have to deal with the wheel also having the 4x100 holes.

i have really noticed now that a lot of cars in magizines have the wheels with a lot of holes. do you think its best to buy weels and tires in the same package??? thats what im looking for.

Yes, you will probably get a better deal if you buy the wheels and tries as a package, because when you do this the wheels with come mounted and balanced.

This is semi-related. Will a Nissan Sentra (like a current Spec V) rim work on a 1985? Seems like it should, but it seems like some Sentras are 4X100 and some are 4X4.5". The Maxima is 4X4.5 right?

Specifically I'm looking for a set of these:

For my 1985 SE.

Thanks for the help.

The spec V rims will work. They are 4x114.3 just like the 2nd gen. I don't believe any of the sentra wheels are 4x100mm.

ebay should have plenty of sets in your price range, you may have to get them used though. Also you can check places like wheelmax.

Lots of 17" spec V rims on Ebay, they even say "Nissan" on them. Would probably look great on a 2nd gen, but I use my car as a "beater" and potholes + theft are an issue. I've seen sets of 17" spec V rims for the $400 range and you could easily get tires for $250. If you can find some with used tires already on you'd be right in your range.

Thanks for the info. The old sentra, like the original se-r (early '90s) had 4X100mm. That's why I was seeing both show up on searches.

What size bolt pattern does the first generation Maxima use? I do know that they are 4 lug rims. Don't remember, but I think I recall reading somewhere that the second generation is the same as the first generation. Also, where could I buy 17x6" or 17x7" rims for a first generation car? I guess 17s will fit without any modifications and no rubbing?? I haven't tried to search Ebay for rims, but the reason why is because I don't know the exact bolt pattern size of the 81-84 Maxima. And also don't want to buy a nice set of rims just because they are a 4 lug pattern. I know almost every Honda runs 4 lug rims, but are they applicable to fit the first generation Maxima? Thanks for any help.

First gen is the same bolt pattern as second gen. Not sure on the offset though. I had 280ZX "Iron cross" rims on my first gen. No rubbing.
