I taped my lettering and used an exacto knife to leave the lettering covered before painting. I suppose Testors paint should do the trick for you. Btw I sprayed clear coat on the cover so that its easier to wipe clean.

some people put Vasoline on the areas they do not want paint to stick to and just go nuts with the paint the wipe the Vasoline off after you have painted...I'm not sure that answers your question but I just thought I would throw that out there

I tried hand painting mine but it was so easy to mess up and even after I did it you could still see the brush strokes....mine is all the same color as the rest of my coil cover. The Vasoline thing may work for you if you just put it where you could make a noticible mess up.

Actually, it does work, I used petroleum jelly and did just that when I painted my coil cover and it turned out pretty nicely.

this thread has inspired me to paint the valve cover to match the exterior color, then do the lettering in black... or red maybe... we'll see

you can use a dremel and just take the paint off the lettering to make it silver.
