Y Pipe - Custommade vs Branded.
Y Pipe - Custommade vs Branded.
I know, I know another Y-pipe thread
I'm in NZ, the otherside of the world to warpspeed/budget/cattman, so to avoid possible fitment issues I was looking at just getting my local exhaust shop to do it...
Am I likely to get the same performance as a branded one, I can't see why it wouldn't be the same if he just copys the design from the pic though...
And as its custom made, would making equal length pipes be an easy thing to do or would it take alot of trial an error for the shop, hence more $$'s
Opinions greatly appreciated

Potential Risks are
Branded doesn't fit, can't send back really due to shipping costs
-or-
Buy custom, may not perform as well as Branded (researched/tested)
I've never heard of anyone getting a custom made one done. IIRC cattman gets their headers from NZ. Maybe you could figure out where they get them from and actually end up getting it cheaper than we can over here.

Yeah, I don't know anything more. You might try contacting cattman and seeing if they could hook you up for whatever they charge minus shipping to them and back again or something. I'm sure they're not going to want to give you their contact. You might also try PMing Caesar's Chariot...he's now a fellow NZ maxima enthusiast.
I had a custom made Y pipe on my last maxima. It worked fine. The pipes were not equal length but I didnt know better back then.
There is a way to make equal length pipes. It doesnt take a lot of trial and error. Just need a tape measure

I can't imagine a Y-pipe made for a US spec maxima would not fit. That is the fundamental design of the car, not like bumper cover.
Having a shop make one could really be hit or miss. I would definately do it with madrel bends, not crush bent piping. That probably means you will have to buy some madrel bends being as that all most no exhaust shops have a mandrel bender. They are very expensive pieces of equipment.
If you have a quality shop that does custom work often then it would probably work out alright. If your thinking of having a "midas" type place do this then you may pay alot of money to be disapointed.
