Useful Tint Law Info.
Useful Tint Law Info.
There are many threads on here about what the tint laws are for which states. I came across this chart which lists each state's laws from as current as 2004 and thought I'd post the link. Maybe this will help to cut down on some of the threads we have asking about what tint is legal in which states.
EDIT: The chart has been revised as of May 24th, 2005
Enjoy!

[QUOTE=MDeezy]call me daft but I dont fully understand the bumbers.
example the 70% for CA would mean you can have no less than a certain tint?[/QUOTE
The 70% is the visible light transmisson, This means there is enough light coming into the car so the police can see you. So you order 30% tint without any problems for the front windows and any % tint on the rear windows. Also only 4" tint on the windshield and add tint to your outside mirrors. Later Warren

cool, nice find indeed! I dont fully understand the chart... why cant they just say "yes tint is allowed, and up to this %" or "no tint allowed" ? i feel stupid after looking at that chart... man i need to go back to college. lol
and i could have sworn that RI had a no tint law... when the heck did that change?
maybe i will pass my inspection after all...

You guys dont understand that chart? If it says 70, than that means you are not allowed to get a lower light transmission tint, such as limo black 5. I had 20 on my old car here and NY and got hell for it, so Id never do it again...70 is so light you might as well not even bother. NY Sux.

thats wrong.. its means you can order only 70% tint..and as far as the visor on the front window it can only go as far as printed on the windshield where its marked AS1..

You can see into my car from a few feet away.
California's VC is very confusing. Even the two websites referenced here can't agree on California's law. Read my write-up on CA window tinting: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....=1#post3955302 (post #32).
Ive been rolling around with 10% for over a year now. Cops on Long Island wont give you a tint ticket unless you do something else and its considered an "add-on" ticket. Some of my friends have gotten tint tickets, they either pay it and forget about it, or they pay a shop to make a fake bill for removal of tints and hand it to the precinct and the ticket goes bye bye.
