Turbo coming for a 2nd gen...

I made my final payment for a turbo kit for my car. It comes from KALSC who as of to date has the only legit North American turbo 2nd gen known to the .org community. Some may ask why turbo such an old car. Well my answer is: 1. It's what I have. 2. I bought another car...so buying a newer gen maxima is out of the question. 3. It's different, and I like being different.

Either way this is what I have so far:

KALSC turbo kit (T3 turbo, z31 turbo IM, z31 turbo exhaust manifold, majority of neccessary piping)
Z31 turbo injectors
Z31 N/A ECU (probably will hunt down a turbo one at some point)
KALSC bov depending on how the set up is done, not sure if it's vent to atmosphere, or recirc.
Boost Gauge
2.5" catback exhaust, with magnaflow muffler (will need to install)

Things I'd need to get:
EGT and FP gauge
Performance cat, probably carsound, 2.5"
Piping from the downpipe to cat up to 2.5"
Rising rate fuel regulator...most likely a cartech
Battery relocation kit
Oil feedline
Oil return bung for oil pan

Things needed to be done on the car:
Need to figure out random ignition problem. When the car is warm car sporatically has a huge miss like the CPS dropped out.
Half-shaft replacement (both are bad)
Engine mounts needs replacing again, might polyurethane fill them.

My goal is a healthy 200-225whp, and getting the car down into the 14's (car runs 16.3 as of now). Not looking for crazy numbers yet, but will consider it down the road. Eventually I'd like to get a VG30ET or VG33ER block and heads into the car....but that is way down the road. Might put KALSC cams to help the motor breath a little better under boost.

Most likely I'll be getting some help from iansw for this project with the install and tuning.

Do you have a pic? How well would it match with an Autometer C2 gauge? (The only autometer lines I've seen are the C2, Lunar, and the latest one they have that look similar to the gauges DEFI has). How much are you asking for the gauge?

naw no 2nd gens, just one 3rd gen about 2-2.5 years ago. it ran, but there were some issues with the body shop and some other issues and the car wasn't completed.....its a loooooooooong complicated story and as of now it sits in storage

good to see this KALSC's kit making it onto someones elses car though, I hadn't seen or heard any new news on it since he first finished designing it

I think that is a cool project. Hey, I get people all the time who are baffled why I boosted my I30.

How are you gonna be running a NA tuned ECU with a turbo? Is this how the other guys car was set up? Must be more too that.

I will probably have Defi electronic fuel pressure guge and Vortech FMU with SS lines available in the near future. let me know if you need them

Good luck

Awesome! Sounds like you have a fun project, good luck with it. I hope everything turns out well. One piece of advice, go with a 3" downpipe for sure, and a full 3" exhaust if you can. When I run my exhaust through my 2.5" cat and b-pipe, I lose almost a half second in the 1/4 mile. Thats with a 3" downpipe, but I have a 3" cutout also.

By the way, I wouldn't ask why you are turboing your car, I know exactly why.

da-max: He didn't do much after he finished the initial design. I know he has a new project car. Twin-Turbo Lincoln Mark VIII. All I know is he's got some serious machining skills...or knows where to go.

Mike: I haven't had a chance to track down a turbo ECU. KALSC car used a VG30ET motor, harness and ECU. I will probably visit that down the road, but for now, I'm going to use the N/A Z31 ECU to give me the slightly more aggressive timing/fuel maps, and use a FMU to tweak fuel. Eventually I see myself moving over to a full VG30ET setup....but until then.

Slimer: I'll get back to you on the gauge.

Brad: Thanks, I might at least do the 3" downpipe. But as far as a full 3" exhaust I'm not entirely sure. I know there is quite a bit of power you can gain by using it...but at the sametime, I want to have my exhaust noise at a confortable level. After riding around in Ian's car before he changed mufflers, I would get sick of the drone after a little bit. Besides, I'm putting the magnaflow he used to have on my car...so that might be and interesting result....and it'll be ready for the 3" piping if I decide to go down that road.

You don't need a turbo ecu. If you have to tune it anyway just use the one you've got. At minimum you need an eprom burner and some free software. 50bux should get you started. I have karnal knowledge of your ecu so feel free to ask if want help with it.

Yeah, I think that car is gonna be insane. As far as changes, I might change where the turbo mounts and some of the pipe work. But I'll have to see when I get the kit in.

mine came from a 96 sr20 black top but you can get them from any 300ztt or any Q45 you will just have to change the plug ends.

you would want injectors off a 90-94 ttz or early 90s Q45 like these

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...sPageName=WDVW

newer 95-96 ttz injectors would work to but use a different electrical connector
