Well, I was sitting on my computer, and thinking about the keyless entry fobs on the 2000-2001 and the 2002-2003 maximas. I was wondering, how difficult of a project it would be to update the keyless entry system in the 2000-2001 vehicles. Now I know its not as easy as just buying a new keyfob off eBay and reprogramming it, if it were, everyone would be doing it (unless I'm out of the blue on this), so that means you have to remove and put in a new brain for the keyless entry (pardon my use of terms, I'm not at all familiar with the technical terms).

So is it difficult to do such a thing? Putting in the newer keyless entry into the 2000-2001 maximas?

Also the same question for the 4th gen maximas with use of a 2000-2001 keyless entry system...

I just want to know the possibilities of doing this, and how one might go about trying it out (where to purchase the necessary components, where in the vehicle the components are located, plug and play ability, technical terms :-p, etc...).

 

So I guess it's not really possible or its pointless to attempt...

 

why do you want to swap your keyless entry system. Does the late 5th gen keyless entry do something that the earlier models dont???

May be snair2 wants to know if it's possible to use either set of key fobs to control both cars?

I can see the point as even my cargo pants get too bulky when carrying home, office plus sets of car keys.

A side question while we are on the key fobs, besides, trunk, doors lock/unlock, windows roll down, and panic, are there any other tricks the 6G key fobs can perform that I am not aware of? Thx!
