5th Gen Muffler

I'm a little confused here. All the posts state that the best quiet replacement muffler is the 5th Gen muffler. Where are people getting these. Do you mean buy new ($$$$$) or are you getting them used off of junkyard cars? I'm soon to be replacing my entire exhaust system and will go Warpspeed on everything but need to keep the sound as quiet as stock (except when I stomp on the gas). My 91 SE is a daily driver, no weekend trips to the track but still like the idea of improved performance. Are the 5th gen mufflers stainless steel? I guess I'm looking for advice. Thanks.

Yeah, as 5th gen owners buy aftermarket mufflers, you buy their OEM mufflers. They are NOT stainless steel, and require bending a piece of pipe to get them to fit, as they are side inlet vs center inlet on our cars. I had one and it sounded nice, when I bought my black max I went w/ a magnaflow which was substantially louder.

What is a nice sounding slip on muffler for a 94 with a sohc. I don't see spending money when it is not needed my muffler is flaking away. So I am in the market for one. Not going too loud just wanting something to impress the neighbors.

if money is a concern, just goto a junk yard and get a double tipped stock muffler. it is nice and quiet until you hit 3k
then, its not a head ache either.
25$ bought the whole thing from the cat back.
no cutting or welding required, just a 2 bolt affair.

The 5th Gen muffler won't impress anyone, except for neighbors looking to maintain a quiet neighborhood. I have the 5th Gen muffler because I don't want to make exhaust noise all the time. But with a CAI installed, the muffler does growl some at WOT and get a little bit throaty. But everyday driving is very stealthy, just the way I like it.

I drove though Redwood when I bought my 2nd 3-gen from a buddy in San Fran. Was on my way back up to Seattle.
