Oil Catch Can for 92 SE w/ VE30DE DOHC engine

All -

Does anyone have instructions for making their own oil catch can (goes between PCV valve and intake). My max w/ 160k is having some oil burning/smoking problems during longer idles, and I believe the catch can will remedy the problem.

I'd also be interested in purchasing a used catch can OR if you have a recommendation for any particular brand that would be helpful also.

thx, Mike

wouldn't it be a better option to figure out why it's burning oil and smoking instead of putting a bandaid on it?

i mean if nissan felt that it needed a catch can to run correctly they would've put one in from the factory.

how's that PCV?

Hope he uses a garbage can. If he's having that much blow by, it will fill up really fast. Sounds like either a worn out engine or worn valve stem seals.

On some engines the valve seals may be changed while cylinder is fed compressed air to keep valves up. How it goes with VG/VE?

can someone clarify this for me since I'm not familiar with oil catch cans and what it does:

A. what does it do?
B. if there is a small filter on the catch can, can the pcv valve be permanently removed, or is it simply an "add on" to the pcv valve?

I originally thought worn valve stem seals, but seems like I would get a big puff of smoke at start-up, and I get nothing..... only get smoke when it idles for 20+ seconds or more. ALSO, if I red line it in 2nd gear for a mile or two (on the interstate) the smoke problem improves DRAMATICALLY for several drives, then gradually gets worse.....

Recently changed the PCV valve.

Spark plugs look great, so figure that rules out valve stem seals. Really not interested in doing work on it that is not necessary, esp. since the car is only worth about 2k....

Band aid would be fine at this point!!!!!

Catch can sits in the line between the PCV and the intake and "catches" the oil in the vapor being pumped in from the crank case - usually used in turbo charged vehicles because of the increased pressure. In my case, I think the old horse (engine) is getting more blow by (piston rings) as it has gotten older, and that is causing more oil (from the increased pressure) to get pushed up through the PCV.
