$1k should be your budget just for good tires with mounting and balancing. Just look through magazines and you may be able to find low prices on low quality wheel/tire combos.

For that sized wheel, you're gonna need 235/40-18 sized tires, which aren't cheap. A lot of ppl on here like the Kumho tires (http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=300429), which you can get at TireRack for less $500 than a set, in "Ultra High Performance" for either summer or all-season tires. [Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 (4) for $464] I never heard of the Nankang tire brand included in that package deal on eBay. If you do get those wheels, get the tires elsewhere, they're just charging you $445 for no-name tires.

Most folks will tell you that you should be putting your money into the tires, 'cause that's your only connection between the Maxima and the road. And I'd be one of them. But that being said, only you know your driving style and how much you'll really benefit from a better (& pricier) tire. If your priority is to have safe tires with enough tread, and be looking good in your stylish wheels, nothing wrong with that.

Or find a wheel/tire package like $tillenmax suggested, but they usually come with crappy tires. On TireRack, you can pick and choose your own combo, and they'll mount and balance for no-charge.

BTW - 38 offset should be fine for those wheels fitting into the Maxima. (35-40 okay)

........And monkeys will fly out of my butt! Nah, just kidding. Let me know where you can find those. Hawaii guys sell them for like $2K. That's the cheapest I've seen for Volks. Actually, I take that back........I've seen a set of Gram Lights for $1200 with decent tires. Just got to be patient, I guess.
