2000-2001 Projector Headlights

On ebay I found this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33710

On Custommaxima I found this:

http://www.customenterprise.com/view...-NM00BC-KS.jpg

On the custom Maxima projectors its H3 for low and H1 for high.
On the ebay one, they say its H4 for both. That is not possible I think.

What do you guys think? Should I get it from ebay or custommaxima?

They are the same thing, save yourself some money and go with eBay. While your at it purchase some philips D2s bulbs, some ballast, and a set of s2000 projectors.

Did a word search on the ebay page and there is no mention of H4. Don't know where you got that from, but do go with purchasing them from ebay. Good luck with your decision.

Listen to this advise. Those things are ugly. Go with the 2002-2003 HIDS.

I *was* looking to buy some for the 2k GLE, but after doing proper research on the Org, all I can really find are members who don't like the projectors. Yeah, they LOOK cool, but they don't function very well at all... to get true look AND function, get the REAL HIDs. From what I read about projectors, the beam pattern is all jacked up and you have to do a lot to put HID bulbs behind them.

Just my observations.

My friend has them in his '01 and they look ok, but at night he may as well just use his fogs, the projection is terrible def. go with '02-'03 H.I.D.s or '01 AE lights

yeah the projectors are terrible for any car you buy them for. if there not factory and have oem design is just come ghetto company slapping a projector together with no engineering invloved, there for show not drivability, you can also just get balast set up and HID yoru stockies, the 25 anniversay ones are hot with hid. try it out

For clarity:

Dr. Roy doesn't simpy plug a HID kit into the ebay projectors, he replaces the projector lenses that come with the housings with real HID projectors (ex: from S2000, TSX, 3-series, A4, etc).

are the projectors lenses in the custom maxima headlights crappy or do they just need the power of HID lights to shine through?

If I recall correctly, his more recent retrofit uses the E46 BMW projectors. Either way, the crappy projector lensthat comes with the eBay projector housings gets replaced with a decent projector lens with a proper cut-off.

The projector lenses in those housings are crappy. Adding an HID kit to those housings without replacing the projectors will result in massive glare.

Why don't you click the link and you will see why not to add HID to your halogen housing

I Highly advise against this suggestion by MaximaSE. If you're talking about getting better lighting out of lights, do not simply "plug" a kit into AE halogen housings. This thread seems to be talking about avoiding ebay projectors for their lack of quality, and beam pattern. Merely putting a KIT in your 2k/2k1 housings is potentially dangerous, and an extremely corner cutting way of attempting to achieve better lighting. PUtting an hid kit in your housings is bad for two main reasons:

1. Horrible Glare to Oncoming drivers
2. Loss of use of low beams

yeah I think he means the high beam

In either case, would it be better to do the HID on the projector headlights found on custommaxima? or stick with my stock halogen housings and put hids on? are the custom maxima headlights really that bad with HIDs? does anyone have pics of the lights on their car or the beam pattern with their lights on?

are the 02-03 headlights hard to bolt-up? or do they just bolt right up and you just have to do the wiring?

DO NOT JUST THROW A HID IN ANY HALOGEN HEADLIGHT!. I repeat do not put any hid kit in halogen headlights. I posted the link click it! It is a ticket waiting to happen. Do it right and retrofit. Lets try to keep the Maxima a decent car. It isn't a civic! Please read and research, rather than having us do all the leg work for you. I am sure ply agrees.

the problem w/ the H3 projectors inside the projector headlights when a rebased h3 HID kit is put inside isnt glare, actualy they dont glare at all and have a well defined cuttoff w/ some color. The problem is the reflector bowl of the projector, it has some sharp angles. rather than a smooth rounded bowl, its sort of like a hexagon cone.
So the beam pattern projected has areas that are dark and three hotspots, it sucks that the bowl on those projectors are like that, if the projector had a better reflector bowl they would probably be pretty sweet

maybe I could replace just the bowl...or modify it some how else...

unless the 02-03 headlights are easy to swap in and wire up...
