Loud exhaust only when in gear, quieter when in neutral
I've got a 5spd with PR CAI and warpspeed y on my max right now, and that has been about right for the loudness of the car in my opinion, but in the last month, my max just got really loud while accelerating.
It sounds like normal acceleration, only it has been a lot louder at a frequency (of about 6 "pulses" per second), and the more i hit the pedal, the louder it gets, regardless of what rpm i'm at. Today I just swapped out my 2-month-old muffler on warranty for a new one, and that didn't work (i didn't really think it would).
Another weird thing about this is that it only does the "pulse" thing when the car is in gear... I'll be stopped and put it in neutral and rev it, and it sounds really quiet, or i'll be cruising, pop it in neutral, and rev, still quiet... I have no idea what this could be related to,
does this problem make any sense to anyone??
Thanks in advance for any help (sorry so long)

Thats ten times slower then your idle speed.
It is all about airflow.
When you are in neutral and revving it, your throttle plate is barely open. It takes very little airflow to bring the engine to redline in a no load condition.
When trying to moderately accelerate a 3000 lb car, your throttle is probably open 50% or greater.
More airflow -> more noise.

So would this be an exhaust problem after all? Like I said, I have a y-pipe and a custom bent exhaust (stock sizing) with a new muffler, and it's never been this loud. I was thinking of removing the cold air intake today because I have the day off, would that make much of a difference??
I just don't want to go through the entire summer with a freaking loud car...
You've got an exhaust leak. Since the muffler and y are new get under there and check the B-pipe. If you can't see anything then do it with the car on and you should be able to feel exhaust coming out someplace.
