I was just wondering about a topic that I don't ever remember reading about.
Anyways, will Coilovers wear out with time like struts will? If they do, will they wear out SLOWER than a strut/spring combo?
I know that Coilovers improve handling over the S/S combo, but I'm just looking for another way to justify the extra cost if and when I purchase my suspension.

 

well, i have heard that although the adjustibility of coilovers blows struts/springs outta the water, the threads of the coilover can seize up and make it very tough to adjust. this will most likely happen in wet, cold weather. snowy rainy. that detered me, considering i'm in a northern state.

 

What I was wondering, although that's really good to know considering I'm going to school in Rochester, NY, was the long term status was on coilovers; if they lasted longer than a regular strut/spring.
As a side note, how long should good struts last? Am I most likely riding on my original struts?

 

Threads will deteroriate with harsh winters but most strut cartridges themselves can be redone cheaply if they do go bad. My coilovers also ride 2.5" lower than stock so they're not suited for winter driving anyway.

 

Just read through the org and you'll see plenty of threads for coil-over problems. Loose upper joints, popping sounds, spring seats wearing down ect.

They are much more prone to problems then a McPherson strut or a shock absorber.

^^^I would have those in my garage by now or better yet on my MAX, but Performance Peddler is out of stock of the rear ones... 2-3 weeks or so...

 

I know that Sam had to get his JIC's rebuilt because that exact same thing happened, the elements are just too harsh up here in Canada.

 

are there any issues with the Tein basics?? .... we have noise problems with the d2's, no longevity report on the Ksports and the Jics are wayy to much money and have heard problems with these too ..... tein basics best bet ?????
