Installed the STS.......got a question or two.....

So I installed the STS today, but I ended up with a couple of questions...

First off, is it supposed to feel so stiff? Everything works fine and there are no problmes finding gears, it just seems really stiff.

Secondly, why does my shift **** shake a little in second?

Oh, update, I do plan on replacing the MT fluid with MT90. I already have it in my posession and plan on undertaking that project today.

Mine shook going into second gear on a downshift, and was a little stiff going into reverse. It went away after replacing my clutch, flywheel and gear oil. I’m not sure if this was the reason or if it was just a matter of time.

vsamoylov, It's the HP Auto sts.

Seeing as how you installed the bushings also, it ought to feel more stiff. It will most likely loosen up a bit as you use it but nowhere near the loose feel of OEM.

Not sure about the shaking shift ****.

This is either old news to you, or maybe not, but spraying white lithium grease will make it nice and smooth. It shouldn't feel "stiff" but the bushings will give you a more solid defined feeling. I finally did the grease thing this weekend... it had gotten so stiff i was hardly able to get this thing in reverse... now what a difference.

Mine was also very stiff. I read some where and lithium grease was recommended. I used it at bottom of shifter and under the hood and not any better. Very stiff. I talked to the person who designed the 02 STS and he asked me some questions and he was able to determine the problem. For me, I used one extra washer that I didn't need and it fixed the problem. The piece that goes under the hood I believe uses either one or two washers and I only needed one. Since then, mine shifts as it did before and didn't need any grease or bushings. I have the second gen STS, but I don't believe that should matter. Hopefully this hepls. Ed.
