You can do it... but good luck finding someone to install it for you. Some places just refuse. Others will make you sign a responsibility waiver. So if you start your car in gear, they are not responsible for any damage.

Hmmm.... I don't see why they wouldn't. I was thinking of having one installed on my Max. But the place wanted another $200 on top of the price to do it. That's only because the brands they installed doesn't do the waiver deal. I think Viper does... not too sure though.

Ask Don (Pearl96Max) He's an installer for them.

I just thought of something that could be a factor but im not sure...How would the installer bypass the clutch pedle cut off. cause the clutch has to be depressed before the starter will engage right?

yea they can do it....i know in my 93 prelude, all there was was a switch of sorts on the back of the clutch pedal... i had it with a pos auto page alarm even tho it cost me 400 bucks.....but be warned, all it takes is once too fuc**** up lol i was up in my bedroom, started my car, then remembered i was workin on it earlier and left it in gear(which i never did, unless i was workin on it on jacks...next thing i heard was a BAMMMM CRASSHH CRUUNNCHHH(like the old batman show) lol and my car hit my damn garage door. luckly my front kit was already ruined and nothing a little rubber mallet couldnt fix on the garage door........the car will lunge(sp?) a good 2-3 feet, per attempt to start the car if left in gear and stalls out...my remote start tries 3 times before it gives up...

DEI doesnt have a waiver of any sorts. They completely prohibit the use of their products in any manual tranny vehicle. To safetly do it you will need to tap the neutral safety wire, this will prevent it from trying to start in gear. To bypass the clutch, simply ground the clutch trigger wire, or use the status output from the remote start.

Beware, there are two kinds of people who have remote start on a manual transmission: those who have started it in gear, and those who will.

Why doesn't DEI allow it be done that way? I know Compustar has a great remote start system that's always been made for manual or auto transm. I wish DEI would publish how to do it right, and allow it, so we wouldn't get shops who do it 'behind the scenes' or customers diy it incorrectly.

Not many cars have a neutral safety switch, hence the reason for prohibiting it. Aside from the liability issues that can occur.

Does a 2001 Nissan Maxima SE have this "neutral safety switch" or "neutral safety wire"??
