Change LED color in Radar Detector?

I know there are many skilled members around here who have done work with electronics such as silvermax2k2 etc... I apologize for this not being a question about Maximas but I figured somebody might be able to help me out... My dad is getting a new BMW in a few months and his bday is next month. I want to get him a new radar detector (Bel 995 or Passport 8500 X50) and I thought it would be really cool (if possible) to change the LED display of the detector to orange to match the inside lighting of BMW's. His phone is hardwired currently and he leaves it lit up on orange to match so I thought he would appreciate it if the radar detector could be modified to display that color as well, and it would be a great gift. Thanks guys.

I personally never seen it done before, but if things don't go right, the manufacturer probably won't repair the detector. Also, I have the V1 and Escort 8500. They are pretty darn expensive but I wouldn't open them up just to change the LED/color. Just my .02.

If its easy to take apart and get to the LED, do it. Just replace it with the same type and size. I take electronics apart all the time and swap LED's. It's easy if you take your time and put everything back together smoothly. I like to change the LED in my rear view mirror, but you can't open it up! (Ugggh!!)

I think they use 3MM LEDs. How about this. Can you at least unscrew the housing to get to the LEDs?

Are you talking about the mirror? Yeah, that's the thing....there are no visible screws to where it's held together. It seems as though it is held together with glue or something!
