Birdseed on my engine?? WTF??

Finally got me a cardomain page and some pics, so I had to show you guys this and ask wtf?

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/856700/2

How in the heel does someone get birdseed in the engine bay, enough to have it disperse into these three areas on the engine???? I noticed this when I brought the car in January and got it home, but didn't want to remove it until I could give you guys a good laugh.

Anyone with any theories as to how the heck this might have occured? What am I missing, because I can't figure it out.

Perhaps the previous owner was a birdbrain or a squirrel or a rat stored the bird seed there. Vacuum it out and don't sweat the small stuff, lol!

It's one of those things you can never explain. Like how my cat weights 19 pounds.

my vote goes with a rat storing food since the engine is nice and warm there. I had a rat nest in mine once. Darn things chewed through some of my wires!

When I worked at a dealer we found DOG FOOD in the airbox of one of the cars that some critter was storing in there. Funny stuff.

cars should have 10,000 volt electrical systems, instead of 12 volt. fry the little bastards.

I used to find acorns in my engine bay all the time when I used to live in the NY suburbs.

lol, no they're not pot seeds, I was 18 once and know what those look like. Besides when the pot seeds heated up wouldn't they give off a familiar smell? Then again maybe not, they're only seeds.

Maybe it was the rodent theory, the car did only have 34.6k on it when I bought it so it could have sat for periods of time. But there are no chewed lines of any kind or any other signs of life.

Oh well, the seeds are gone now, if they come back, well.... doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo.

I wonder if you could play a practical joke on someone by putting popcorn seeds in the same areas as my bird seed. The engine would get hot enough to pop the corn and totally freak out the owner of the car. Hmmm.....l wonder....lol

i had the same thing. some mouse was taking food out of my dogs bowl and then taking it up into the engine. there was hair and string and all kinds of stuff in there. fortunately, it was all balled up together, and i took one of those flexible spring loaded grabber thingys from home depot (hey, you try and describe it better!!! ) and i just started grabbin and pullin and got most of it.

The reason I ask, saw the picture...well, did you ever look in the block? Think it could have been vandalized? I just happened to look in ours that just quit, it locked up day before yesterday...what appears clearly visible inside has the distinct appearance of about 1/4" (at least) of wet....BIRDSEED - (it wasn't in my Maxima, which was recently totaled by a distracted idiot in a full size van) this WAS in the "other" car, which never ran hot, but never quite right, either...no evidence of sludge, and a very recent oil change. Signed, Walking... and looking for a Maxima...(3rd or 4th Gen)

I found quite a few rat turd spread out on top of the lower intake manifold where it stays warm for rats to find comfort...
I vacuumed out most of it and will be removing upper & lower intake manifold and valve covers this weekend to replace valve cover gaskets & EGR tube, so I'll be able to clean out all rat turds that's still left down in that valley somewhere...
Hopefully, I won't find any wire damages...
I think I'll start parking the car in the garage from now on.

Having bird seeds in your engine bay is a timeless occurrence.

It will still be just as odd today as it was six years ago. haha
