Custommaxima.com?????

So i was bored today at work and decided to check out some sites. I noticed on custommaxima.com they have listed a straight pipe designe to fit our max. has anyone tried this product??? They are claiming to have received 11hp and about the same in tq. Is this for real .
http://www.customenterprise.com/view...asd/scspid/727

I have the cattman catback and if this is for real i would be interested in it. Are there any faults to have a straight pipe there instaed of the cat. i am in floirda so i have no inspection each year for emissions and i think i may get away with it.

ANy thoughts

its pointless unless ur boosted...are cats arnt really restrictive....if u take it off u will get a CEL which is just annoying.....and ur car will stink when idling.....

I have a cattman cat-back and as soon as the brown truck delivers them, HS headers and I will be keeping the stock cat.

straight pipe a.k.a. "test pipe"

assuming you are not boosted:
advantages: noise, if that's what you like

disadvantages: noise
- loss of backpressure
- will fail emissions testing
- likely CEL light

Jason (soonerfan) had one for a while but took it off. The loss of backpressure made his car hard to start and weak on the low end, as I recall....

ok so has anyone used the catman cat that he just released. He says that it gets about the same HP/TQ. is that a better idea then the straight pipe

our stock cats are very free-flowing. There are few to no gains to be had with any aftermarket cat unless you are boosted. I would suggest you redirect your attention toward a y-pipe or headers.

I put a ebay test pipe in my 00' for a while. there is not noticable gain to it except for the MUCH louder exhaust. I've seen some y-pipe that just sweep back and come together, and some that the tube for the rear bank comes down and makes a loop before coming together. Is there and advantage of one over the other.

I Beg To Differ Its Not Louder I Have B Pipe With Resonator And Stock Muffler, There Is More Flow With Test Pipe Ie Less Back Pressure More Flow Less Restriction More Power.

i had ported air box, headers, custom 2.25 b pipe to stock muffler before i got a straight pipe. i did not not notice much power but it has to less restrictive than the main cat. even though it may flow well, having a straight pipe versus a honeycombed cat is not a comparison. i felt the same in the low/mid/high end. i took it off for emissions and because the flanges were weak and tended to leak.

Had one- it made a diff on my car as my main cat was clogged.
It also broke bout 3 times and I tried to keep it togheter by rewelding it. After some time I got tired of both my POS Cattman Ypipe and CM test pipe and put on a set of HS headers, Warpspeed test pipe, Stromung catback.

i just gutted my cat, since my car is a cali spec there are no 02 sensors behind the cat, and the only way i think you will get a cel is if you are federal spec. there was little to no change in power, and the sound wasn't that much different. i don't know why you guys waste money on a pipe that you could have a muffler shop make for cheap or why not just gut your cat. my exhaust is a wsp y-pipe, gutted cat, custom 2.5" b-pipe, with the stock muffler. you can't hear it when it's idling, and it sounds stock pretty much through the rev range. i am going to change the muffler soon. but only because i want it to be a little bit louder.

I have a Cattman Y-pipe, a Custom Maxima Pipe, a B-pipe and stock exhaust.
It' not loud and maybe i feel more power on mid-range. I have a great sound 2000RPM and more.

While we are talking about cats, has any of yhall ever punched out your cat? I was just wondering what advantages/ disadvantages this would have on a maxima, especially since our cats are already free-flowing as it is.

people have done it, but i think it would be a huge waste of time. those bolts on your max are going to be so rusted; getting them off, then getting the cat off.....way to much time

it's really easy to get the cats off. i sprayed mine with wd-40, and used a breaker bar and then took it off and punched it out. i did the whole process in like 30 minutes. he's in georgia not up north where you get a lot of salt and crap on the roads to rust out anything. i saw a little gain, but not a lot. nothing to brag about but the sound was better.

I've read a lot of members saying you might get a check engine light by using this test pipe. This is not true because there is no oxygen sensor there to monitor heat. It's simply there to burn off any remaining gas that the other cats weren't able to. A prevision you might call it. I use this test pipe with no issues, but don't really feel an "increase". After all, it's just a resonator. In the end it's your choice.
